I'm not against the idea either, the building is going to provide for some great space for much needed programs, but that design is awful. What scares me is that the rendered drawings always look a little bit better than the finished product.

Interesting looking building.

"Emergency services" - does this mean this building will house police, fire and ambulance all under one roof???

Yep. It’s interesting because the town is building this facility, but doesn’t actually have its own fire or police departments. The fire department is an independent fire company that serves a district that the town falls into, and the RCMP provide the police service. Very generous of town taxpayers.

Where are they building this?

To add, Charlottetown better get its act together and start that new fire department Malpeque rd location. With all the new development in that area better get it done before a disaster happens.

I work on Sherwood Rd, there has been a huge increase in traffic the past 10 years or so. That intersection could definitely use a redesign!

Agreed! I was hoping St. Jean Elementary would be shut down so that large parcel of land could be developed into high density residential with some small commercial. Opening up that much residential downtown would do wonders for the downtown businesses. The influx of students in the area would have justified one day expanding Prince Street Elementary.

It seems like no planning at all goes into this city.

Another 56 unit apartment for Stratford will be starting soon. It will be located close to the new Fire/Police/Ambulance terminal.

I see they sent out letters to those who live within 500ft of the development. I'm wondering if they left out the "affordable apartment" part as there is a certain amount of stereotyping around this city area. This was evident with a few attempts to establish affordable housing in the city area. If people don't change their perspective of "affordable housing" and get over the "not in my backyard" attitude, it will be a development killer.

Hopefully this won't happen in this case but it is out there. Just saying!

Normally designs like this get ruined because of cost cutting measures. This does not seem to be a project they could cut to many corners on.

Kent Plaza is seven stories in Charlottetown and has been the tallest apartment for many decades. Someone should correct them as the information is false.

This is good news.
Something I never understood it happens everywhere though but why "she added that some of the surrounding buildings need some tender loving care." This is a private own building, and I'm guessing they are not connected to other buildings so why bring up the buildings that surround the area.
