So, the RTG has until January 2nd to provide a new RSA date (it's in the contract, apparently).

And it was mentioned that they must also provide at least 30 days notice of the RSA date. (They can't just say on January 2nd that the date is January 3rd).

The article has a link to a Tweet by Jim Watson with a time laps video of a train running from Blair to Tunney's. It is cool to watch, though a bit strange the way it jumps back and forth from a front mounted camera to a side mounted camera (facing forward). Also funny seeing a bus pass the train on Nicholas between Lees and uOttawa, so I am guessing the train isn't running at full speed.

It actually might have been. The buses can go pretty fast on Nicholas if there isn't much traffic, and the train had to slow down for uOttawa.

Ya they won't be picking up too much speed between Lees and Rideau with the stop at UO and the turn coming up at Rideau. The rest of the time it is actually quite a fast line.

It seems our stops are far apart but up their with the faster lines in Canada.

Watching the video got me thinking:

Does anyone know if the on-board announcements will indicate which doors are opening?

Ex: "This is uOttawa Station. Doors open on the right at uOttawa Station" (and then in French).

Or will it be a guessing game for passengers unfamiliar with the line.

Still no launch date for LRT but signs of progress

The city still doesn’t have an exact launch date for the Confederation Line LRT, sticking with the estimate that the $2.1-billion rail line will open sometime in the first three months of 2019.

Transportation general manager John Manconi told the finance and economic development committee on Wednesday that Rideau Transit Group has been achieving milestones and wants to do a full practice plan this month.

However, the city wants to make sure the next date is reliable. RTG has already missed handover dates in May and earlier this month. All the city will say is the 12.5-kilometre LRT line will open in the first quarter of 2019.

Manconi told the committee there are seven key things to track: the RTG practice plan, the signoff by a safety auditor, substantial completion of the project, trial running, revenue service availability (the handover date), revenue service and all of the city’s extra costs.

City treasurer Marian Simulik said her staff are working with Manconi’s staff to identify all of the extra costs incurred by the city during the delay. She said the information should be available within the next two weeks.

Manconi said OC Transpo plans to freeze fare prices until LRT launches. There will be a report during the 2019 budget process, he said.

He has been saying that for days now. It isn't a firm date, but a new deadline. Lets see if they are able to keep it.

Yeah, gives you a good idea of the scale of the line. At times I feel like it is such a short stump of a backbone but it's actually a pretty good distance serving some importance areas of town.

I wonder why the platforms in the underground stations have the nice tiles, but the platforms at St. Laurent have the large, rough tiles similar to the outdoor stations. Isn't it technically an underground station?

It also really emphasized to me how disproportionately long the eastern leg is compared to the western leg. It seemed as if as soon as you left the tunnel you were almost at Tunney's Pasture.

Watching the trains from the SITE building at UOttawa. They're going pretty fast, I'd say at full speed.

Seems that the trains are numbered starting at 1101, and I say 1131 go by. Does anyone know why they chose that numbering scheme?

One thing I really like about the video and how everything has been designed, is how brightly lit the tunnel is. Most subways are dark dungeons outside of the stations.
