That NY offered such rich incentives for an NYC site is a head scratcher. NYC doesn't lack for employment...it lacks an adequately functioning transportation system and housing.

There is a non-zero possibility of significant political blowback here unlike NoVa and Nashville.

You are 100% correct. Atlanta has much more talent than TN and has a bigger name as well. GOP toxicity turnee off Amazon however.

Notice how everything, and I do mean everything, is political with them. Red vs. Blue. They simply cannot hold back, even when discussing HQ2.

Ew @ Nashville, the incentives are nearly half of the actual investment and they have to dish them out immediately lol.

Now comes the 20 years when we see how this actually plays out.

The real winner is Nashville. Proportionally larger impact for that city compared to DC or NYC.

Nashville is really a rising star. I have family in Nashville and it's crazy to see the transformation of the area. One concern about Nashville is the infrastructure. I think we may be looking at a situation worst than Atlanta if Nashville continues to grow at it's current state without MAJOR infrastructure investments. A short trip to Nashville and it will be evident to anyone that it was never planned to be a city of any consequential size.

I not sure where this idea that Amazon is a beacon of liberalism and will accept nothing less came from. If anything they want a government like Tennesee that will bend over backward for them.

So called Economic Development incentives has been around forever. Amazon is just the latest and perhaps the best player. As they saying goes in Hip-Hop, "don't hate the player, hate the game."

This is massive news for NYC. It will cement the city’s status as the No. 2 tech center in the US, together with its unparalleled role in finance, advertising, media, etc!

I suspect that NY will eclipse CC in terms of job growth. This is where people want to be.

$48k per job from a place that, if anything, is hurting from too much employment too fast causing RE prices to skyrocket. I suppose one way to fix a transit system is to dump tens of thousands of new riders onto it...

I doubt politics played into Atlanta losing to Nashville. I mean TN did just elect the wretched wing-nut Marsha Blackburn as Senator. My parents live south of Nashville and I'll be there next week for Thanksgiving. Always have a great time in that city!

Atlanta’s appeal is diminishing due to traffic. People want to live in Alpharetta, Roswell, etc., and yet it’s impossible to commute to downtown from there.

Nashville and Charlotte are the new Atlantas. In time though, they will face the same problems of traffic, since, like Atl., they don’t have mass transit.
