As for Metcalfe, he was governor general after and in terms of streets that have banal, irrelevant or useless names, it's certainly not the worst offender in downtown Ottawa.

I am a much bigger fan of the banal, irrelevant, and useless names, than the god-awful tacky and inappropriate naming (and renaming) practices that have taken hold in this city. But maybe that should be a different thread.

What made you think they would? The earliest I heard that it would open is February, so with 1 month of testing, that means they won't be finished until January.

It was me speculating they would open in Feb. To do that though, they'd really have to finish by Christmas. At least to the point where all that's left are minor deficiencies and operational testing. This would give them sufficient time for testing and a modicum of slack.

If they aren't wrapping up till Jan, good chance that service launch might be end Feb to early March.

When the plan was to hand the line over Nov. 2, they said it would be operational by the end of the month, which is less than a month. I don’t see why that would be different now. There are always risks of major deficiencies that could cause additional delays, but hopefully those will be sorted out prior to the handover.

It may not open in February but unless they find a serious problem, I think it will open before May. If they want to open it in April, I could see the universities pushing to have them wait until after exams are over though.

Honestly, at this point, just do it right and make sure all is up and running for Canada Day to shuttle locals and tourists around. Gonna be cool for tourists that come to Ottawa via rail and transfer downtown on our fancy schmansy LRT line and tunnel.

It won't be able to handle Canada Day crowds. It is designed to handle peak period service on a normal work day. There will have to be parallel bus service to handle the overflow, otherwise we will be waiting for hours. I don't think I would want to be underground in a crush load situation.

If mostly regular bus service could handle Canada day, shouldn't the Confederation Line also be able to? Granted there may be plenty of safety concerns with that, and parallel bus service may not be a bad idea either.
