Second Cup will be opening before Christmas in the former Starbucks location next to Indigo. Thy will also be adding a drive thru window according to them.

Also - it appears the new Petro is close to opening on Hilyard Street. And the Petro/Sobeys Express/A&W and Bayside Drive is getting closer to completion as well.

Anybody have any info on what’s planned for the former Cleve’s on McAllister Drive? The “For Lease” sign came down a couple months ago and RCS Construction has been there working away but there’s no sign indicating what it’s going to be....

Does anyone know what is going in the former Dollarama space at Fairville Blvd Plaza (Between Bulk Barn & Pet Valu) I haven't been that way since the beginning of last month.

When I was out that way early last month, I noticed that it was still empty, and when I checked the site plans online they updated them in September listing that space as "available" http://plaza.ca/wp-content/uploads/bsk-p...ofile_and_Leasing_Plan_Sept_2018_786.pdf So I emailed Greg Butler (Owner of Christmas Discounters) through their website: https://christmasdiscounters.ca/ and told him about the empty space and said it will be a good spot to open a permanent store here in Saint John (Discounters) & that I loved their store in Moncton when I was visting Moncton for the first time, this past summer. And a few days later (Oct 9, 2018), he emailed me back saying:

Quote:
Hi
Thank you for your continued support and interest in our stores, I will pass on your comments to our moncton manager. We are always looking for opportunities to expand when possible and I do have contact with Plaza group on occasion so will inquire as to terms and cost of their space on the west side. Thanks Again
Greg
I'm not sure if he got the space or decided not to?

Anyway, does anyone have a clue about the status of this space?

I heard on FB that Mark's would be moving into the former Cleve's, and that Cineplex would take over the then-former Mark's, to expand into something.

I suppose I should've posted about it here instead of on the main projects thread...

All the same... I drove by there this morning and they're currently paving; it's starting to look nearly finished. Key components yet missing are the main signage and the gas pumps.

According to the building permit, it's going to be a Dollarama

(Note: while project descriptions don't seem to be working anymore in the Watch Us Grow app, they can still be pulled from the permit data on the City's Open Data site)

I have no idea what this may mean for the other 2 (!) Dollarama locations in the East Side shopping district, but I can't imagine all 3 eventual locations surviving in such close proximity.

The one at Parkway will more & likely close. They need to renovate that one anyway so they probably just decided to move to a new location instead of doing renovations to the current one. (The same thing happened with the westside location this past summer. They moved into the former Staples instead of renovating their old space between Bulk Barn & Pet Valu).

I noticed that the old Starbucks space in the Indigo building is now being replaced with a Second Cup. If Starbucks couldn't make a go of it, not sure how Second Cup will do, but then again when Starbucks occupied the space there was a stand-a-lone Starbucks just a bit down the road, and again another one just down the road in McAllister Mall.

Last night I went by the former Cleve's store (soon to be Dollarama) and they had the interior and exterior torn down to the studs.

Also, I went into Winners and renovations are still going on. The former Homsense side is closed off except for a tiny space sectioned off still having shelves of pots & pans and miscellaneous things. Also, there is a "hallway" leading to washrooms surrounded by white drop down curtains from the ceiling. And some things on the current Winners side of the store has moved/changed. Like they moved the registers down further to the left of as soon as you enter the store, (where men's clothing used to be) so it's a bit of a further walk from the registers to the door. Where the registers used to be, is purses & suitcases. Men's clothing is where accessories & things used to be. So overall things are bit all of the place. But I can't wait for the renovation to be complete on the other side of the store, and they move over to that side. I've seen pictures online of the inside of newer Winners stores and it looks really nice.

Anyway, is Micheals Craft Store still supposed to take over the current Winners side after Winners moves to the other side?

(Sorry but I didn't think to get any pictures of both renovation projects, if you're wondering if I have any pictures).

Yeah...that was a bit of a problem having 3 Starbucks close together like that. Even Tim Hortons had the same issue, when, in addition to being located on McAllister Drive AND in McAllister Place, they opened a location inside Kent's when that store opened in I believe 2000.

I think Second Cup would do better, because it's a different chain with the single location. It's unique to the McAllister Regional Retail Centre, and it should bring more attention to itself than how Starbucks did, where Starbucks, in Indigo, only had that initial 'pop' which fell off after the stand-alone Starbucks opened in East Point.

Just my thoughts on that anyway.

70 Consumers Drive is the same building as Pizza Delight, Mastermind Toys, EB Games, CIBC, & (Soon Sherwin Williams). I imagine that the current Winners space is way too big for Pur & Simple Restaurant. It's 21,653 sf. (You can see this info here: https://www.smartcentres.com/app/uploads/2016/03/SAINT_JOHN_TO2018.pdf) Besides, the Winners building is 88 Consumers Drive.

Also, you can check on here: https://catalogue-saintjohn.opendata.arc...metry=-66.047%2C45.305%2C-65.99%2C45.315 it lists an application for: Tenant fit up for "Pur & Simple Restaurant" for 70 Consumers Drive. (Click the blue dot nearest to the corner of Consumers Drive and Westmorland Road on the interactive map).

Talked to a Marks Work Warehouse employee who said they are hoping to relocate and have their new store in the former Sears location in McAllister Mall with The Brick. Would be a good addition to the mall. Time will tell.

You're probably correct on this on, at least, I hope so.

They would be a good addition to McAllister Place. I hope they can get this space filled up soon, I don't like that big space sitting there empty.

It will be nice if/when the mall is completely filled up, (no empty spaces). (It will be nice if we had stores like Forever 21, Hot Topic, Lululemon, etc).

Also, I wonder if Hart department store will take up a portion of the former Sears space.
They did say recently that they were exploring the idea of opening in Saint John & Moncton in the future.

Pretty sure I saw a new "off ramp" style entrance being built on Westmoreland road too, in that Indigo/Hampton Inn location. But I haven't been that way in a while, so I may be mis-remembering the situation.

Also, I thought I heard they're going to make a drive thru there too. So that could make the Second Cup more attractive and accessible.

So it looks like On The Vine is building a new store on its existing site and then demolishing part of the current building.
