The ending of service at 11:10 p.m. instead of midnight on Sundays (and presumably holidays) just re-enforces the idea that is not urban transit but commuter service for the suburbs.

What's the reason for them ending at 2310? Are they using the time for maintenance? Many systems close relatively early on Sundays nights for this reason.

Not exactly the Confederation Line, but for those who have been placing bets on whether the Confederation Line or ION would open first...

The opening of ION has been pushed back again to next spring.

No it doesn't. Ridership is lower on weekends so it makes sense to end service earlier for maintenance.

Kind of the opposite but the TTC subway starts up around 9 AM on Sunday mornings unlike at 6 AM the other 6 days of the week.

On everything except Sunday end (where we end at 11pm and Toronto ends at 1am) we compare well to Toronto. We start an hour earlier than them on weekdays and end about half an hour later than them on Fridays and Saturdays. So it means overall we have 4 more hours a week of service than they do.

I do think 11pm is too early on Sunday and 6am is too early on Saturday. I'm sure there's way more people travelling at 11:15pm on Sunday than there at 6:15am on Saturday. Similarly, I think 5am is a little ridiculous for weekday start time; AFAIK, no other system in North America starts that early (Toronto starts at 6am, Montreal at 5:30am). I know the federal workers have an obsession with early hours, but come on, there's no way night buses can't handle the load at 5:15 in the morning. It's nice that service extends to 2am on Friday and Saturday nights (a perk neither Montreal nor Toronto has) but ideally it should be a little later so it extends a fair amount of time past last call at the bars.

If I was in charge, I would shift the hours to:
-Move Saturday opening from 6am to 7am (cutting 1 hour a week of service)
-Move weekday opening from 5am to 5:30am (cutting 2.5 hours a week of service)
-Extend Sunday service from 11pm to 1am (adding 2 hours a week of service)
-Extend Friday and Saturday service from 2am to 2:45am (adding 1.5 hours a week of service)

These changes completely cancel each other out (it redistributes 3.5 hours of service from the start of the day to the end of the day) so it should presumably make no change on the operating budget and for overnight maintenance windows, it does make the Saturday->Sunday one 45 minutes shorter and the Sunday->Monday one 1.5 hours shorter, but the other five are longer (Friday->Saturday is 15 minutes longer and the others are all 30 minutes longer).

Leaving my office this evening, they actually started putting up the outside signage on the east entrance at parliament. There was a tiny mini sign on the door facing O'Conner, only big enough for the O, and a 1 logo

Wish they did a better job in this city coordinating street accessories like lamp posts. In some cases the red O is obstructed by street lamps or traffic lights or signage.
