*Correction*

There can only be two ‘winners’.

What exactly did they lie about?

They never said it wouldn't be split up between multiple cities.

I remain comfortable with my recent posts in this thread.

My strong suspicion is that the big question remaining had been where to locate the 2nd site.

Is this a joke? They've been promoting this as a 50,000 job one city HQ since day one.

They're going to split it between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Or KC Kansas & KC Missouri.

Nowhere in the RFP does it say multiple cities wouldn't be selected.

No one from Amazon ever said that either.

Lol what was once a fun contest whose outcome I was very interested in has just devolved gradually into a shit show rat race. If this is how Amazon is going to operate, I don't think we want them in Chicago. I mean these could all still be rumors, but literally they are now talking about splitting this up and then they are going to toss it in some shitty suburban areas. I'm sorry, but we already saw what happens to giant retailers that decide to start locating their headquarters out in the burbs here in Chicago. One just finally went bankrupt the other day...

Could this be Amazon's "Sears Moment"? Where instead of picking an urban location in a location somewhat in tune with the latest cultural trends, they decide to high tail it to the burbs where their business model can slowly rot over the next few decades? When Sears abandoned their tower for Hoffman Estates that was the beginning of the end of them. It took a few decades, but the damaged caused by inundating your business with suburban 'culture' runs deep.

At this point I hope HQ2 is going to somewhere truly awful like Crystal City and Indianapolis.

It's not the worst pick for a potentially massive campus.
Jeeze, no one else wants to be there, why does Amazon? I mean that's shockingly high, but par for the course for many suburban markets around the country right now. All of Chicago's suburban office submarkets are in the 15-25% vacancy range while downtown sub markets range from low to high single digits vacancy.

Literally what I was just going to say: "so what exactly is the point of this article?" No shit Chicago's leaders aren't going to be like "welp, I just read a rumor in the paper, let's pack up and go home boys"...

Now articles like THAT make a city look desperate...

But it does say the RFP could be amended at any time.

AMZN is trying to get a major HQ in every important time zone. Two of these four will get the nod Austin, DFW, NYC, or DC area.

HQ2 Conspiracy Theory - Amazon ruled out Arlington TX early on to avoid confusion if Arlington VA is announced.
