Woolley's recommending they stop work on the bid. He basically said that it's time to move on to real issues.

A recommendation will be brought forward to Calgary city council's Olympic assessment committee Tuesday to cancel the bid process for the 2026 Winter Olympics as well as the Nov. 13 plebiscite, CBC News has confirmed.

The city and federal government were unable to reach a successful conclusion to funding talks on Monday.

Coun. Joe Magliocca said if the negotiations are ongoing, "it doesn't really matter because tomorrow, it's going to be the end of the Olympic bid."

The feds weren't short, their policy was to offer 50 cent dollars, and that is what they did.

What's really disturbing is that council was unaware until this past weekend that the city's share was going to be $370 million. A lot of people including council want to know why Nenshi and the administration kept this number from us.

Looks like this disaster isn't over. Apparently the feds and province have to some sort of deal on a revised Games concept. This is nuts. This had better go to a vote on November 13 if this is true.

This is the letter Nenshi sent out.

The new agreement, already signed by the Premier and the Federal Minister of Science and Sport, would result in $4.4 billion into the local economy, $1 billion in wages for Calgarians, 15,400 jobs against a City of Calgary investment of $390 million. In effect, Calgary gets $10 for every dollar it puts in. It is an excellent agreement, and better than could have been expected in all honesty. Summary here:

There is an extremely well funded no vote push also, led largely by the Flames ownership group, Brett Wilson, Kenney's extreme-right-wing faction, Postmedia ownership, Rick Bell, Farkas, Chu and Magliocca. They were all actually on the sidelines till the bid corp released their scope, which included using the Saddledome, and adding a mid-sized arena and field house at the university (an extremely prudent and ironically fiscally conservative plan). Ken et al. flipped their lid, and started pushing back, saying either that the money would be better spent on a Flames arena subsidy, or pushing the bid back to 2030, when it could include a new arena. Just ridiculous stuff, in all honesty.

Glad an exceptional funding agreement was achieved, and I hope we can land the games. Calgary's position looks extremely strong at this point.

How are you personally going to gain if this goes through? The above is complete nonsense.
