The Crain's article says Whole Foods has signed on for the retail component. Was that previously reported?

Odd, there's a Whole Foods on the adjacent block. They're probably going to move that store into OCS

That makes sense. It's a nice neighborhood Whole Foods but with the density that has built up in this area over the last 10 years, it's in dire need of a much larger store.

Yes, it's one of their earlier stores and entirely inadequate for the size customer base it now serves. I always assumed it was them going into OCS when I saw there was a large grocer footprint.

This is a bit of game changer. We always talk about the skyline moving westward when prime sites are developed to the east, and here it is. Can't wait to see a project of this magnitude hit the Loop proper.

Wow, didn't see that one coming, SB joining the OCS party. They've got their bets everywhere in this city, don't they?

"With construction financing nearly finalized for the $850 million project, the joint venture plans to break ground in January on the two-tower building at 740 N. State St. next to Holy Name Cathedral, said JDL President Jim Letchinger."
-Crain's

When the financing is actually finalized in the form of a guaranteed construction loan then I will celebrate. Until then I will continue to hold my breath...

While it is a slight bit sad that this tower lost supertall status, but when it comes down to it the roughly 30 foot drop will not make a significant difference. now with the added grocery component and HUGE secondary tower this project is a beast, cant wait to see this one rise! this neighborhood is going to feel completely different once completed.

EDIT: Looking on Google Maps, it looks like there is a Whole Foods in the tower just south of the site. Does this mean they are moving to the new tower orr?

I assume that's the biggest project they've been a part of. Can't think of a bigger item

Right, plus some projects get height bumps during construction so who knows. I'm still excited

What a disappointment it would be if they couldn't get it just 22 feet higher. Or at the very least 984' (300 meters)

Whole Foods and Sterling are amazing boosts to this projects security, however!

Developers usually don't care that much about supertall status. And visually it really makes barely any difference.

It's odd how the floor count increased though, are we sure 978' is the parapet?

EDIT: I looked back in the thread, it is to the parapet

...

In a dream world, the WF would have direct subway access. That would allow Pedway-connected people to do grocery shopping without stepping outside (unless the Near Eastside Mariano's is already connected to the pedway?).
