That building is one of the slimmest tower in Downtown and is 99% rental. It's pretty great actually and I don't mind it at all.

Which building are we talking about here? The Charleson? Ithought there was suppose to be a mural painted there.

It would take a lot more then just that one building to ruin that skyline.

I looked it up and it's the Peter Wall Mansion. It looks nice enough from the street side, but the problem is the tower's so thin that the blank elevator shaft sticks out and nothing has been done with it. The Charleson up the block has a blank wall on one side as well but at least some sort of abstract painting was done on it. I wonder if Mr. Peter Wall has any plans to do something with it because it sure sticks out like a sore thumb on the skyline.

I did some more research and apparently that building is supposed to have an LED light public art installation on the tower wall. I don't know if that means the blank part though. I wonder if it's been installed yet. Anyone seen it?

Agreed. All the buildings that looks basically the same are far worse than the one blank wall.

I don't understand the aversion to "blank" walls. Must everything be glazed for it to be an attractive architectural feature?

It is strange because on paper the False Creek area should be great but I always found it bland. The mainland side in particular feels suburban, with large development footprints, almost zero architectural character, and not much of a mix of uses.

I don't feel this way about the Beach Avenue end (despite the traumatic palm trees). I like most of the 1960's-era West End highrises more than the modern blue glass point towers (it's debatable which style of building is better to live in). The Burrard Bridge is also more interesting than the Granville bridge and Vancouver House is turning out to be one of the most interesting features of the skyline. I like that Vancouver House appears wider from this angle.

Traumatic palm trees? I get some don't like them (I think they look great personally) but lets tone down the rhetoric a bit lol.

I don't care about palm trees either way, though when I see them in Canada (or on the south coast of England) it does remind me of a 60-year-old dressing like a 21-year-old.

If Klazu does not mind, these close-up of his provide greater detail than his panorama. Regarding the building with the exposed core, it was supposed to feature embedded LED lights which became denser and denser as they reached the top to create the effect of a constellation of stars. But the public art proposal did not (or was not permitted to) make the final project:
