Bummer. I realize that this space has been empty for a long time but thinking long -term this is very disappointing. And this is happening just as there was finally the chance to connect 12th & Midtown with other retail along Peachtree!

With the potential development of 1125 Peachtree and redevelopment of Colony Square and Campanile there could finally be enough critical mass to make it a destination. Instead this will be a dead space after business hours and 1125 will only have space for a couple of small eateries = mostly dead space.

Does anybody know what restaurant is going in the bottom commercial space of Lilli (3rd and Peachtree)? It appears they're starting to do the interior build-out and the storefront says something along the lines of "chef inspired restaurant coming soon".

Love seeing Midtown continue to expand further south and add life to the area!

Barrelhouse in the Scheller College of Business is closing. Is there any word on a new tenant moving into this space? I imagine there are a few (hundred) MBA students upset by this closure...

My wife unlike me isn't a big fan of playing tourist in Atlanta, but we did so yesterday. We avoid weekends and that gives us a certain perspective. First stop the Botanical Garden. A nice educational experience as always. Good diverse age and racial demographic. Overall great. They made a ton of upgrades and are headed in the right direction in my opinion.

Next stop Ponce City Market. At the retail level it's a joke - where to start. Good news is it can be fixed. They need to move fast though. There is certainly a large captive element of I guess offices and apartments in the vicinity. We went to the so-called fish market and spent $80 for a lobster roll, lobster bisque and crab cake straight from the freezer - together with water, dried out fries, and chips in a bag. Sterile experience to say the least. Asked one of the help how's business, and she said slow on Wednesday. Slow as in empty. I don't care what day of the week it is you can't be paying rent and employees with no customers. There were people in some other spaces but not spending money from my observation. The apparel stores are fucked - over priced and no sales. The West Elm and Williams-Sonoma were dead, some lookers but no buying. The rooftop experience was closed probably for the entire day.

With few exceptions I feel sorry for the retailers and food service operators in this country, not just this location. The entire Ponce Market retail (can't speak for office spaces and apartments) needs retooling in short order. I've seen it happen multiple times in Atlanta and other cities. In a short time it will become really obvious, as in empty. Jamestown and Cushman & Wakefield need to attack the problem immediately. The solution? That's above my pay grade but somehow get the audience to spend money.

Not to mention once 725 Ponce is leased up, many of those employees will be going to Ponce for lunch (there’s also a phase 2 of 725 as well as the new city proposal at O4W GA power site). I wouldn’t expect a big midday crowd midweek at Ponce at this time. It’s generally buzzing after 4 though and weekends it’s probably the most frequented building in the city, rivaling the malls.

PCM will be just fine, although I could care less for the overpriced lobster rolls and oddly specific and pricey retail.

Ponce City Market empty?

I tend to view your posts as mostly out of touch anyway (sorry) but this one takes the cake. You could go to nearly any retail destination on a Wednesday and it won't be very busy because most people have jobs. I will only say that there's a reason that PCM will likely be the destination if Apple decides to come intown. And who says "the help" anymore?

Everyone should feel free to share their opinion, but also prepared for others to disagree... There are good and bad ways to disagree though.

I've had a lot of visitors this year (friends/fam) and I took all of them to PCM, every single one loved it. PCM, and the HF burgers, end up being their favorite thing we do during their entire trip. Months later they're still talking about PCM, the beltlline, paris on ponce (we stop there almost every time), and those damm amazing burgers. I've gone a few times during weekdays off and have always enjoyed the slowness and ability to breath. Also the retail is really popular to others. My younger fam members went crazy for one of the shops and bought a bunch of stuff, I had never heard of it. I don't think it's cheap to rent there, so after all this time if a shop is still open they have to be doing well... even if they're not something you like specifically. Speaking of, is that fancy hat place still there? It's not my cup of tea but it always seemed really busy and I liked the idea of one day wearing a fancy hat + feather.
