Big Phipps Plaza project to break ground on Thursday

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter

Quote:
The next evolution of Phipps Plaza is about to kick off — bringing a new hotel, office space and fitness club to the upscale Buckhead mall.

Mall owner Simon Property Group on Thursday plans to break ground on a new mixed-use project on the northwest portion of the campus, redeveloping the Belk department store.

The roughly $200 million project will build a 150-room Nobu Hotel and restaurant, 13-story office building and 90,000-square-foot LifeTime Athletic facility.

55 acres next to the kudzu trail sold to QTS. No specific plans announced, although they’ve already filed for a large data center in the same proximity

Finally! Drive-thru sushi

I wish there was some way to break up some of the super-blocks in that part of Buckhead. They're definitly pouring some money into the property

Norfolk Southern CEO says HQ will move to Atlanta

'only if many aspects can be resolved'

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...k-southern-ceo-says-hq-will-move-to.html

Quote:
Norfolk Southern Corp. CEO Jim Squires told the Virginia-based railroad giant's employees Thursday that the company will move its headquarters to Atlanta, "but only if many aspects can be resolved to make sense for Norfolk Southern, its shareholders, and its employees," The Virginian-Pilot reported Thursday.

Squires added that "the move would involve construction of a new headquarters building, which would take about three years." Read The Virginian-Pilot story here.

I like the looks of the Capital City Real Estate project.
The base has a certain amount of class and seems to be nice brick with surface details. Has a certain "Historic" quality.

I love love love that we are finally getting some development between townhomes and 200-unit mid-rise apartments. I think this is going to be important to maintaining a broad range of housing types and price points. And its a great way to bring infill to the corridors outside of Midtown and downtown. That Edgewood proposal looks really nice.

I agree, it is fitting for the area. IMO, Edgewood Ave could/should be one of the most interesting areas in the city with its proximity to Downtown, the BeltLine, history of the neighborhood, existing fabric of the buildings, as well as the opportunity for redevelopment due to all the industrial land use. Probably the worst thing about the area is how few residences are directly adjacent King and Inman MARTA stations compared with all the development between them. Over the years, hopefully infill and density occurs that better supports both stations.

The private dorms near GSU are taller than the actual GSU dorms nearby already. It's making great progress and already an impression on the downtown skyline.

The Interlock:
The rooftop at The Interlock is expected to include an upscale 12,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant and outdoor bar. It will also have a private pool and lounge with a retractable roof. A highlight will be an infinity pool that “drops off into the city skyline,” according to a media release.

Also at the Tuesday conference, Garrison revealed the first retail tenant for The Interlock. Saint-Germain Bakery, which also has a small location at Ponce City Market, will take about 2,000 square feet at The Interlock.

In total, The Interlock will feature 200,000 square feet of office space, a 50,000-square-foot incubator space operated by Georgia Technology Ventures, and 105,000 square feet of retail. It will also have 350 apartments, 70 single-family homes and a 145-key Marriott Tribute hotel.

Atlanta Business Chronicle previously reported plans for the hotel. At the conference, Garrison said it would be called “The Bellwood.”

The project is set to break ground next month, with the goal of opening in third-quarter 2020.

105,000 square feet is a lot of retail, in addition to all the retail in the other developments. Howell Mill will be buzzing with activity.

Half of the office space is already taken. WeWork to lease more than 100,000 square feet in Interlock
