Great shot. Shangri-La and Trump look huge in it.

That Winnipeg shot just reminds me of how sparsely populated Canada is. Southern Manitoba could easily sustain millions more people, Canada could easily handle double the population without skipping a beat.

The Winnipeg aerial reminds of Pittsburgh with their "three rivers".

When I was in Winnipeg nothing in that section of land east of Main existed. No baseball stadium, no Museum of Human Rights and no Forks.

Interesting that it's "union station" and railway hotel is relatively far away from the skyscraper core. Unlike Toronto.

It looks fairly central in the core to me.

I was comparing it to Toronto where you exit Union and cross the street to work in the bank towers. Looking at Winnipeg you have to walk quite a bit.

I imagine it was the centre of downtown when it was built although the main cluster of office is now at Portage/Main.

Not nearly as far from the main core as Vancouvers.

I always thought the exchange district (which is even further) was the historic core?

Vancouver has two though, one of which is right in the core similar to Toronto.

@EDWinnipeg
From the heart at Portage and Main to True North Square to the Manitoba Legislative Building, downtown Winnipeg on beautifully sunny morning in October is pretty awesome.

On paper, absolutely.

But the Manitoban government has been uber shitty at keeping up with the road infrastructure which is just a symptom of Manitoba's bigger problems. If Manitoba decided to suddenly try and double its population within 10 years (this is just an example to showcase the problems there), that province would seriously struggle to house, employ, and maintain its current infrastructure. Manitoba wouldn't have the economy to support a big population boom combined with all of the demands that come with it. For example Churchill is seeing a huge economic decline and it could even become a ghost town because Manitoba hasn't been taking care of it (I don't know how else to gently put it). And the real kicker, is that Churchill is a port that connects the North and it can connect trade routes out east as well (don't get me wrong, it's not the next Vancouver or Halifax but still has potential...). I bet Alberta would love a port to ship oil from meanwhile Manitoba ignores a culturally (and potentially economic) town.

I'm sorry to derail us a little here. Back to the photos! It's nice to see some Wpg love on here. I would love to see more east coast and smaller towns. I know it's a "city" skyline thread but there are plenty of municipalities out in our country that make a visual impact without needing a lot of population. St. John's for example.
