Repaired along 12th beside the library and they're doing the other side of the street now too. The building on the other side is also getting some rehab.

Currently repairing south sidewalk along Century Plaza (old Bay) on 12th between Rose & Hamilton. That section was among the worst in downtown... a lawsuit waiting to happen. No trees, though.

Not that Harvard needs anyone to defend them - they're hardly the underdog - but I have to say, they seem to put more time & effort into maintaining the sidewalk in front of their buildings than anyone else. sidewalks in front of Ag Place, and the Towers are cleared of even a dusting of snow by 7am, and are actually wet most of the winter (ice melter - which likely explains the trees' survival rate), and I routinely see Harvard maintenance people out there sweeping or powerwashing the sidewalks adjacent their buildings (no, it's not the Regina Downtown people).

They could work on helping the younger trees they plant survive, but at least they're putting in trees - rarely, if ever, have I seen other property owners downtown putting in trees (let alone maintaining the ones that exist. I beleive the only reason the trees along Rose ever get touched is because I put in a service request with the City when the weeds get about waist-high (approx 2x per summer). I didn't call it in one year, just to see what would happen - should-height weeds is what happened.

What ever happened to the Regina Supermall project that was proposed for the Global Transportation hub is this still a go and i hear they have 120 stores interested. Any plausible evidence on this or is it another stalled project? I live in Lakeridge and i am wondering whats the delay on getting more stuff in the Capital crossing project? Hope someone can shed light into this.

Yeah...this was a scam I think. Just look at the size of the building and ask yourself if 120 stores could fit. From what I understand it was a method of getting Chinese investors to put money down for micro-lots inside the mall (thus helping the GTH), and in exchange they got to launder money into Canada. So there could be 120 tenants listed (at 100sqft each, or whatever), but in reality nothing will be sold there.

I could be totally wrong, but that's what I last read!

Ya, it is an "investment for citizenship" scam.

That's always how I've understood it as well. I drove by it all summer and it's just sitting there with no one around in sight.

Yeesh, what an embarrassment for anybody who claimed it would be a positive impact to the economy/GTH.

Imagine that, govt tries to get involved in business, and fails horrendously. The current govt did a great job of telling us all how the previous govt did this.

I think this 'mall' is supposed to be along the lines of the New Horizon Mall in Balzac AB (Calgary suburb) that is sitting mostly empty. In other words, a flop.

The GTEC isn't designed to be a consumer mall like New Horizon, it's basically a front for importing bulk amounts of goods.

But yes, it's primarily for immigration.

I love how their big signs outside on the building - in the middle of nowhere GTH - are advertising “Ad Space Available”

wtf lol. No you can’t put advertising space on your empty building in the middle of nowhere that isn’t how capitalism works lol. I think some serious explaining is going to have to happen now that the building it done, and when it fails and they sell it (this would be a great opportunity for a potential marijuanna processor to scoop up the building), the government is going to have to do some explaining on why they considered this build. I am so happy this wasn’t built in Dundurn.

Let's be realistic—no one will ever likely ever see any trouble for this, even though it looks pretty unethical and/or illegal.

Ah, now it makes more sense. Sort of like a year-round tradeshow of sorts.

Except in reality it's a year-round immigration front.

There appears to be something new starting on Prince of Wales Dr and Haughten Rd behind the East Cdn tire. Could be a condo or commercial - not sure. Anyone know what this is?

Someone who works at Costco told me that there will only be one entrance into the parking lot and one exit, and that for the exit you will have to turn left across traffic on Vic, with no lights.

Can anyone confirm? I know that the city has very hard limits on the number of entrances allowed per city block, but will they really force thousands of people per day to turn left across basically highway traffic?
