Is this to keep event goers out, or to allow Heritage the right to charge a fee to people who want to park there?

I suspect the former, which is unfortunate as this was by far the largest available parking lot in the neighbourhood.

I've heard they have machines for the gates that will accept payment to allow entry for event goers after working hours. Although they aren't setup yet.

Avenir Centre the setting for potential record-setting QMJHL battle
Moncton Wildcats face off against Saint John Sea Dogs Friday at new Avenir Centre

It's official - the game is a sellout. This will be the most attended hockey game in NB history.

There will be at least 8,800 in attendance (possibly more given limited standing room only, and depending on how packed the corporate suites are).

I'll be there.

PS - they're already warning people to arrive up to two hours early for the security check. That's fine now, but they're really going to have to streamline this in February. People simply won't tolerate it.

It's opening night - there's going to be issues to work through.

Glad to see the game sold out and NB setting a new record for hockey crowd size.

The doors are actually opening 2 hours early. I don't suspect it will be too bad getting everyone in there.

I also notice on their post about John Mellancamp that they have multiple gates (4) that can be used to enter. For Keith Urban they only used gate 1 aside from club tickets holders entrance.

The security thing seems like the new thing to complain about now that the parking issue has mostly blown over.

That’s complete nonsense and BS. They need to figure this out ASAP.

If everyone shows up 2 hrs early (5:00pm), 5000 ticket holders will not get to watch the puck drop or see any of the opening ceremonies, if they only open the doors 1 or 1.5 hrs before 7:00pm game time.

Edit: I just now read the above post.

I envision they will erect a giant commercial tent for security screening for the winter.. .

The sad part is there isnt really any space inside the lobbies to add security screening areas.... Its too, bad when designing it guess they never thought this need would arise, maybe.

Like I said a few pages back: everyone needs something to complain about.

Once security is complained-out it'll be concession prices or the quality of concert acts.

Those red blocks from the above plans, I assume those are exits only.

I would have liked to have seen multiple entrances for ticket holders. Perhaps at least one more smaller entrance near the Via Rail corner (south west) of the building or south east corner.

LOL. The above is from March 2017.

If they're opening Gate 4 to the general public, then that will help a little. But, there need to be some common sense with scanning people. There's no reason to scan and search every single 50+ year old, especially women's purses. That's what causing the delays.

They're opening more than gate 4. Tonight they are using 1,2,3 & 4. Suite holders can use 6.

Yes. When I got there at around 7pm, there was a line up of about 500. The line was moving fast, basically almost no stopping. All four entry points were opened. I was inside within 5 minutes.

If they have the same set-up for the Wildcats game tomorrow, everyone should be happy and inside before the puck drops.

Huge thanks to the Avenir Centre for making this happen.

I knew it wouldn't take them long to adjust and make it more streamlined. The first event was approx. 9,000 people... there were bound to be glitches.

Excellent! i'll be going to the home opener tonight, excited to see it for the first time. Been watching it being constructed from the ground up (can see it from my work building) so I'm excited to finally get inside!

At the Avenir Centre for the home opener.

First impression:

Well Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore

Wow!!!

I hope the metal detectors are only used at large events and not at Wildcats games, but since SMG is managing the venue and not the city, I'm concerned this will be the new normal for hockey fans........
There is zero reason to have people attending a Q league game pass through metal detectors. What in the world is going on in Moncton.? I get having to do it at the ACC or Rogers center here in Toronto but in Moncton??? Really?

Goods

we got there at 7pm.. walked in .. zero wait, and i had a 4 yr old in tow so it was nice.

we had discounted tickets. so top row but the view was still great.

found a family bathroom .. props on that.

Parking was fine i found a spot on st george by highfield at 7 pm ish so, 3 block walk with 3 kids.. no prob.

Game was great.

bads :

i was sitting top row.. it was very hot...sweaty stinky hot. the ice looked wet.. they need to work that out i am sure they will.

It could have been my location but i found the sound a bit too loud.. like .. painfuly load at times.. my kids were even annoyed and they like it loud.

IT was a bit over produced.. it really took away from the hockey game at times. Distracting the players as well it seemed.

All in all it was a good game.. the facility was definiatly at its max capacity.. lines were long every where but.. not horrible. it will be better when its a regular like 5 k crowd.. leaving some breathing room.

crappy pic

Line-ups to get in were OK. I arrived an hour ahead of time, but multiple entrances were open, and the security lines moved smoothly. I was only outside in the drizzle about 5-6 minutes.

Here's a tip for the metal detectors. Take everything out of your pockets, but if you can hold it in your hands, you don't have to place it in one of the trays while you're being scanned. As long as the security people can see what you're holding. This really speeds up the process.
