Just shelf it already. The City doesn't even have money to keep the area clean. Where do they get money to tear those viaducts down? Vision should just give up and silently disapppear into the horizon.

Wouldn't that be west? East park would, logically, be the triangular future park running from W2nd to the waterfront, in front of the Concert development. I would imagine they'll do something to update/integrate the existing rather tired park area alongside the waterfront at the same time.

Hmmm, I would have expected Concert to be building that park, or fitting the bill. $44M for that space is an even bigger question mark.

Sounds more like a corrupt blackmail for profit. Maybe the people of the city should bring a lawsuit against the developers and the City to take down a public infrastructure that beneifits a lot of people.

With all said and done, the City still does NOT have the funds to take the infrastructure down. Otherwise it would be done already.

With all said and done, the City still does NOT have the funds to take the infrastructure down. Otherwise it would be done already.

That's what I have been thinking lately. I was expecting when September rolled around and the political train was back to running full speed after their summer break that we would have some sort of announcement on the progress on a start date. Things have been oddly quiet.

Planning and procurement are happening right now. TransLink expects to have a contractor and construction to start in 2019 at the earliest.

I saw that Melissa De Genova said that there are contracts in place that wouldn't make it easy to reverse the decision to remove the viaducts.

I would suggest BC's new tallest.

But I would settle for rentals (dare I say, tenement commie blocks) around the same height as Shangri-La and Trump Tower.

a competent team of lawyers should be able to vary these contracts.

it might be difficult, but not impossible if the new CoV mayor and council push for a different deal

Exactly. I love it when people say "something's happening no matter what because the contracts are signed". It's like they're trying to either convince themselves or outright BS other people that something can't be cancelled, and only because they have a vested interest.

Termination clauses are SOP.

Could be that the penalty clauses are rather steep. NPA can't say they're saving a heap of money if the penalty clauses are a slightly smaller heap of money, say.
