Sweet post Rad. Thanks for the updates I forget to check the PAC stuff. Nice to see more action in that part of town! They look like decently nice buildings too.

Funny enough Google must have updated their maps pretty recently as you can see the construction of this new apartment of Leopold F. Belliveau Drive

District seeks public input on fate of 3 Moncton-area schools
Anglophone East School District examines Forest Glen, Sunny Brae and Mountain View schools
Shane Magee · CBC News · Posted: Sep 28, 2018 6:00 AM AT
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/moncton-schools-sustainability-study-1.4840555

Quote:

The Anglophone East School District wants to hear from the public before it decides whether to close three Moncton-area schools and merge them into one new building.

The district will hold public meetings to hear from parents Oct. 18 and Nov. 14 before the district education council votes Nov. 20 on whether to close Forest Glen, Sunny Brae and Mountain View schools and merge them into a new building.

The district has been carrying out a sustainability study of Forest Glen and Sunny Brae schools, near Elmwood Drive, and Mountain View in Irishtown.

All are operating under capacity and require costly repairs.
Personal opinion - all three of these buildings are small, outdated and shabby. With recent new school construction in the francophone district, and with new English schools in East Riverview, the northwest end, and with the soon-to-be consolidation of Hillcrest & Bessborough into a new west end school, this is the obvious next choice.

The only question is where to build? I would prefer it to be south of the TCH, which probably means the "Vision Lands", or someplace north of Shediac Road.

North of Shediac Road is served by Arnold H. McLeod and Lewisville school already, so you would be building a school in an area that no kids would be attending from those neighborhoods. Therefore it would definitely be "out of the way" for all kids for that school. Visons Lands is your best bet unless you want to build on a already existing property.

This road here might be a perfect entrance actually and a good solid location.
https://www.google.ca/maps/@46.1241507,-..._VPSRJ2-uhx32E1h0EfGQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
They could put it at the end of that road just before that road turns south at the open space. Where the open space is at the end used to be a gravel pit that has since been filled up.

Perhaps, but the off ramp from a future planned McLaughlin exit from the TCH would pass very close to here (I've seen the plans).

Same. But the off ramps are further north. Still south of the TCH but there is plenty of room there for a school. The off ramps are to be just north of Kelly road.

Yeah, I thought so too, but I wasn't sure without rechecking my reference. I was just being cautious.

Np buddy. Everyone is entitled to speak their mind .
They could also take it off of the first bend in Leopold F. Belliveau Drive to the north.
Or they could probably build it on the Forest Glen school grounds just to the left. They probably have room their for it now (not sure how big the school will be physically).

At present, the enrollment for the three schools combined is 765 students, so It would be a decent sized school.

Also, I suspect this area of the city is due for impressive growth over the next 15-20 years. I would even go so far as to state that north central Moncton with be the city's main growth area moving forward, surpassing the northwest end.

They had better plan for growth........

Yeah you don't want portables added 2-3 years after construction. Which seems to be the norm these days in Metro Moncton. Which I mean is a great problem! They should just plan for it better.

I know many speak on here about the TCH is used to limit urban sprawl, but I think that has come to pass. With Moncton High north of the TCH, Costco, Home Hardware and other developments north of the TCH and the new Holiday Inn Express north of the TCH; Moncton will continue to grow outward.

What I continue to think, I had mentioned this long ago in another thread, is that they should connect Elmwood to McLaughlin (in the works now via Granite), McLaughlin to Mapleton and then Mapleton to Gorge.

This could be obtained by connecting Queensway from Mapleton to McLaughlin and Northwood gets punched through from Mapleton to Gorge to empty out next to Crandall.

To see Mapleton run North to Ammon is something for the future too. I know a lot would have to happen, but potential is there for generations to come.

The only issue I can see with putting it off of Leopold F. Belliveau dr is that L'Odysee and Le Mascaret are already there.

With the current system, there'd be school bus chaos, since the English and French districts would have separate buses.

I suppose we could build this theoretical replacement anglophone K-8 school out by the Kent County line next to the new Moncton High School.

Just kidding obviously.........

True but if they used the McLaughlin road entrance it wouldn't be as bad. What do you think about that set up instead?

It is the geographical center of the catchment area for that school zoning, so its not far fetched.. there would be the economics of shared bussing in the mornings.. however no one would be walking to school thats for sure.

Vision lands seem like a good place as well..

Seeing as anglo schools in moncton are roughly 75% immersion, Maybe they should just attach it to odyssee and make a bilingual school.. an experiment of de-segregation if you will.. not to get political, but its a good location and might be a good experiment.

Id like to see the politician who has the B$$$s to take on that one. lol.

You would have to get Crandall University on board because Northwood would run through Crandall University property to connect with Gorge Road. Unless you ran it North and ran it around Crandall University so that it would connect and line up with King's Bridge Boulevard.

They are working furiously to connect Granite Drive through to McLaughlin Road. I drove by on McLaughlin today, and I would say they are within two weeks of paving (at most). I'm sure this is a critical issue. I imagine the Costco won't be allowed to open unless a second point of egress is available........

I believe they only have at most a month or so left before the asphalt plants close for the season, so everyone seems to be trying to get their paving projects done NOW before that happens.

Which seems strange especially up here in Freddy because so many of our projects feel like they started late; they're pushing the paving to the last second basically. (Including especially the 2NC roundabout project).

And yeah, you're probably right that Costco wouldn't be allowed to open without having 2 links to the road network.
