I like the articulation on this design. The podium is more uptown than downtown and I think that its a good fit for Oliver. The amount of glazing gets 2 thumbs up from me. A well-developed design.

If they can break the residential portion into two structures and add one or two floors to each, I'd be fine with the new design.
I agree. The massing of the residential tower needs to be softened e.g. 'broken up'. I don't think they need to split the building up, I think they just need to play with the articulation of the facade and materials and that should do it. I don't have any issues with the podium as it seems to have a decent amount of glazing and uses a different type of material to allow it to stand out from the tower portion.

I'm thinking that this is where most people are getting their hackles up, and where we agree. As now presented, the materials have all the potential to come out horribly cheap and create an instant eyesore. If it already looks like a steaming dump in a rendering, how much more can we expect the final product to have permanent stink lines coming out of it?

i'm not sure i'm ready to agree with you on this one.

if we're talking about really good architecture and really good design, that needs to come from the inside out (or at least as an integral part of setting the initial form). what you're proposing is the architectural equivalent of a cosmetic upgrade to the lipstick on a pig.

i suppose i could reserve judgement until the finished product is there to gaze upon but, like the library, it's too late by then to gaze with anything other than regret.

Whoa!! Now, this is exciting if these all proceed. I must have missed the memo in the Frank Oliver Site actually proceeding. This building will be the new focal point of Edmonton City Centre from the South. I sure hope the design is stellar - otherwise, it could make the City look like an architectural backwater.

I might be wrong but this was the last Procura render, and I thought Gulf owned the site now??

Go big or go home I guess with Falcon & Frank Oliver site.

I always read that some thought Procura was just trying to flip the site after it was rezoned. Guess not??...

Ken that’s the old Procura concept - as I mentioned I had thought the project has a new Owner/developer GULF or GWL .... somewhere on C2E or SS it was mentioned. Cold mentioned the “Notices” went out today .... but did not come back and say who was behind it.

The Frank Oliver site has a new design, very slim, think MacKenzie Tower/BIG influenced and taller.

Man, 185 metres for the Frank Oliver? That's massive. Lots in the pipeline.
