I don't think it's going to be that bad. Gatineau's arena looks better IMO, no surface parking lot, it will be an an area with more entertainment options. Other than the RapiBus corridor, most of the area directly adjacent to the arena and its blank walls will be redeveloped eventually.

I was referring mostly to the arena itself. Gatineau's arena will actually be in a pretty interesting spot, and the Rapi-Bus line helps that immensely. Blainville's arena is suburban despair to the T.

I don't know why Blainville did not place it closer to the Faubourg Boisbriand lifestyle centre which isn't really that far away. That area is kind of like the Kanata Centrum - and better in some ways, worse in others.

I am not entirely sure of that.

The two nicer sides of the building will face:

Boulevard de la Cité and the sportsplex across the street

and

the existing Place de la Cité public square with fountains and a stage, adjacent to the Library and Archives Canada building.

The east side or rear of the arena it appears will be partly an extension going off towards to the southeast where three additional community rinks will be, so another building. And the other part of the east/rear appears to be parking of some kind.

On the south side of the building you have an existing office building that's maybe 3 or 4 storeys tall.

Based on the article below, the blank wall along the RapiBus corridor is as such to avoid direct sunlight to hit the ice surfaces. VMSO is asking the City allow them to use it for advertisement (events at the rink). City Councillor Myriam Nadeau suggested a living wall, and VMSO were receptive to the idea.

Price has gone up $1.4 million because the province was slow giving the City and environmental permit. Not very significant in the big scheme of things, but I think the province should pick up that tab nonetheless.

Opening set for November 2020.

At 4,000 seats, it is fairly small. The design looks simple, clean, straighforward to me.

It might be small compared to OHL (or NHL) arenas but it is pretty average for the QMJHL (though admittedly some are much bigger).

4,000 is totally fine for QMJHL and is larger than their current arena.

Yes, like the Centre Vidéotron

At 4,000 seats, it will rank 8th in the QMJHL out of 18 teams. Considering that in most other markets, they're the only game in town, this seems like a good number for a team who has to compete with the NHL, OHL, CFL and USL.

Note that the current average attendance for the 67's is 3,842 (in a 10,000 seat arena) and the Olympiques 2,062 (in a 3,196 seat arena).

I've been aware of the seating capacity all along.

I just find it looks small for a 4,000-seat arena. The stands look shorter than the old Guertin.

The only downside is that it will be tough to bid for a Memorial Cup (which the ownership has said they are interested in doing). I think the min seating is 5000 (maybe 6000?) for the bid to be considered.

I don't know if this rink comes with a way to add temporary seating (doesn't look like it) or if they will forego any Mem Cup bids.

I think the size is good in general as others have mentioned. Cannot wait to see it in motion (drive by on the bus every morning and afternoon)!

But there are two levels. The Guertin only has one doesn't it?

They could always use the new arena at LeBreton if they wanted to host the Memorial Cup. So what if it is across the river and in a different province.

At least in the renderings, the upper level is all boxes (loges). Not much seating capacity there.

No offence but I doubt Gatineau would go for that. At least not in the case of a Gatineau/Q-hosted Memorial Cup.

Perhaps a joint Ottawa-Gatineau cup might work.
