Where's changing city? He should have info on what's going on here I bet
To quote somebody else on here "I have no idea what's going on". There has been sporadic activity on the building, some looked like it might be hazardous material removal, but I had assumed it was for renovation.

Unless we've missed something (which happens) there's nothing submitted yet for the site, but that doesn't mean they can't get a demolition permit in the meantime. If they want to avoid the taxes, they'll throw in a 'meanwhile park' for a while.

(edit) - Built in 1955 as 41 apartments, and converted to hotel in 1976.

Update - it's on Asia Standard's website - the same company developing the Landmark.

"1394 Robson Street, Vancouver: G.F.A: 75,000 s.f. Expected completion: under planning."

That would be about 8.7 FSR, which the West End Community Plan allows (up to 300 feet). 20% of the floor space will have to be social housing unless it's 100% secured market rental housing.

JMX tearing it down would have been a good clue. Maybe they'll use it for staging the Empire Landmark rebuild in the meantime?

Going to miss the Hotel Robson.

My pic from a few years ago.

Vancouver Palms Trees by Ian, on Flickr

Call me crazy but I feel that this will have had a lot more character than whatever will be replacing it. Added a nice variety of style and color.

Predicting Norwegian Maple Trees with no interesting signage.

Already posted at the top of the page. Up to 300 foot tower, total around 75,000 sq. ft. of which 20% has to be social housing, if it's a condo building. No application yet shown on the City website.

New family unit modest tower proposed for Barclay Street in the West End. A bit more here. More on the City's website.

Nice scoop, I think this looks good. The vertical element at the front has a bit of an art deco look to it which I think should work well in giving a nod to the character of the adjacent buildings while still looking modern.

Definitely. I'm really liking the Streamlined Moderne 1940's asymmetrical Deco vibe. Price point though... likely not viable for most families.

Wow, had no idea this was already gone. Can't even go out for a little walk without missing something these days. Robsonstrasse Hotel, possibly the last structure with a name that relates to the German presence in the area not that long ago. My pic Sept.14

Anyone know how is converting the old Coast Plaza Hotel in West End to rental units coming along? I drove by last night and it is so sad to see the huge building completely dark. I hope the plan has not changed and the building will be all lit-up soon again.

There appears to have been work going on for some months (and it certainly sounds like it if you're shopping in the mall!)

Excellent to hear. It just feels so slow-going, but then again it was also very slow when they refurbished that tower next to city hall.

I went looking for a new crane in that area today but couldn't see any.
