The buildings going to be 11 stories, I don’t think it gets its own thread.

It is not a "T-shirt printing plant", it is a next gen made to order clothing printing factory. They imported State of the art Israel textile printing machines. Whole new business segment. Philly also has a high tech textile research consortium - Drexel / Philly U / and others. Clothing is yet another vertical Amazon wants to change the game and dominate. Think made to order / custom fitted clothing shipped same day... think very big addressable market.

Glenn Bloomenfield out of touch

https://www-bizjournals-com.cdn.ampproje...hiladelphias-defeatist-attitude.amp.html

I don't know how this butthead makes any money because he's not living in the same city I am. He's completely out of touch. Probably pontificating from the main line.

This is probably a canned column he wrote a year ago and is just trying to force a square peg through a round hole. What a douche? Has he been paying attention at all what's been going on in the last 5 years. Did the eagles take a defeatest attitude to win LII? Get real loser. Get you head out of your ass chromdome. Why dont you and Destro go take a can of wax and go shine each others bald ass heads.

I forgot to mention, this summer I did some internship work out in KOP for a real estate firm. My job was to take boxes full of a company's property deeds, and sift through them and find the important shit. One day, I opened a box and what graced my eyes can only be described as pure gold.
The Wendy's at 1513 Chestnut.
I opened the folder, and to my excitement, Wendy's lease should last there for another 2 years! And even better, they have multiple renewal options left!
Exciting stuff happening in Philadelphia.

Chestnut. Not Market. Yes, this was part of Alterra's redevelopment deal. I'm hopeful that when the existing renewal options run their course, the Wendy's will leave and be replaced by a different tenant.

Redirecting this Amazon-related discussion from the Laurel thread here, where it's more appropriate:

Sorry, I'm salty.
Here's what gets me fired up. If Amazon was looking for a real urban environment, how did the Montgomery County, MD and NoVA make it out of the first round of cuts that left those two locales pitted against a bunch of big cities?

But if Amazon was looking for something like Bethesda or Tyson's Corner all along, then why didn't they just come out and say so? In that regard, edge cities like KoP and their ilk would have been more competitive bidders. Or maybe Philadelphia would have pushed the Navy Yard harder.

From that perspective it was never really a fair fight because NoVA and Montgomery County, MD were competing against big cities that seemingly Amazon had no genuine interest in locating.

That Wendy's is booming. It's always crowded, line out the door! It probably makes more money than any other business on that block. Other businesses could learn from it's business model.

I still believe Amazon may very well still come here. Philadelphia is the only city of the top 5 in which there is no Amazon activity. They're saving the best for last. What puts Philadelphia ahead of the others such as Bos, NYC, D.C is it's geographical locale between Bos and D.C, full of diversity and unmatched cultural history. The SY location is incomparable. Easy access to the Northeast Corridor via Amtrak's 30th Street Station, to NY, BOS & D.C.. An airport line minutes to PHL international airport. A robust 24 hour mass transit system that's right in the middle of top tier universities in Wharton Penn, Drexel, Jeff, Temple. Which gives Amazon direct access to a talented workforce, readily available. Did I mention that Philly office space is the lowest priced per square foot?

Amazon also wants state of the art fiber optic business internet and optimum mobile phone network. Well, the largest ISP is Comcast, headquartered in Philly with the largest WiFi network. Amazon and Comcast will make great corporate neighbors!

I don't think it is as obvious as it may seem that Amazon is going to the Wash DC area. If that was so, then the announcement would have been made a long time ago. It ain't over 'till it's over, and the fat lady is clearing her throat. Amazon may have a pleasant surprise for the pouting Negadelphians. !

Not sure how much of it is attributable to business acumen...it's located in the CBD at one of the highest traffic intersections in the city. If not the busiest. And is surrounding by demographics that like and eat fast food in significant numbers. But, yes, they are doing very well. I'm told it's the most profitable Wendy's in the ENTIRE COUNTRY by a friend who was affiliated with the W hotel build! There were reasons for them to know that with a certainty.

I also agree. Not to mention that if Amazon wants to make the biggest splash--in terms of PR, social and economic impact, and effect and influence on the trajectory and place in the world of the city/region it chooses--Philly can't be beat. Indeed, Philly is arguably at a unique tipping point at which Amazon's impact would be the greatest among all of the 20 finalists.

I picture a commercial that takes place as Amazon execs walk through 30th St.
"That's a great idea. I'll bring that up at my 1030 in New York," Exec #1.
"Thanks. I'm pitching it at my 930 meeting in DC," Exec #2.
"Good luck. See you at happy hour," Exec #1.

Centrality of location is Philly's biggest draw imo, not just for Amazon but also for future potential.
Amazon isn't coming here (not official but I doubt it), but the future can be bright if the city capitalizes on its strengths and works to foster growth where growth is lacking.
