And not every movie or TV show makes LA look bad. That's false. By your logic, why WOULD ANYONE want to come here if Hollywood made LA look like Detroit/Gary Indiana for the last few decades? Every year, LA breaks it's old tourism numbers. Hotels are going up everywhere at a crazy pace. The internet has made LA the global center for Social Media personalities, and they put out images of LA everyday in some form or another. LA is the number one destination by far for atheltes to live/spend time in their offseasons, and they market LA very well on Instragam, Twitter, etc to millions of people. Lebron coming to LA is a bigger deal than people realize too.

From what I've seen on social media and what not, I don't see the same "scary gang image" LA has like it did 15-25 years ago. Chicago, Detrioit and many southern cities seem to be more tied to drugs and violence than LA is, and that's been true for many, many years now. The negatives I see come up for LA these days are traffic, cost of living and homeless situation. Maybe city grime/filth. I will even hear more about fires than crime/gang stuff.
Excellent post, a myriad of the most influential people who work/lead in a range of genres such as Media, Tech, food, music or just anyone starting a unique small business think La is the best in the US right now. Possibly the world.

And unrelated but I liked the liveliness of this thread couple days ago enjoyed the banter no hard feelings

Yea, many of those people (especially athletes) could live anywhere in the world. The number of big name players calling LA their offseason home hasn't gotten unnoticed on several big sports talking shows in the last few years. Hell, even seveal of those shows have relocated or began in LA now. It's really incredible when you take everything into account.

I think people need to take a step back from LA's problems. Yes it has some, like other cities. But it's not falling off a cliff or scaring people away. That's just bs.

Oh, but for the power which surges through my petite bony fingers. I am now in command of something great. I am no longer the pathetic weakling, the intellectual and emotional "midget" who was always pushed around in times past. Suffice it to say, internet anonymity truly has its benefits

You are totally correct. As avid sports fan, it is almost insane how every single sports show and talk show rave about spending their time in LA. I know sports fans in other cities get annoyed about these shows talk about living in LA or wanting to live in LA. From the beaches to the canyons...you have to admit there is a reason so many of these athletes and others choose to live in LA.

I saw a giant thread on social media about the rest of the country complaining about too many podcasts coming from LA.

Apparently, LA is dominating that too. I don't care what CNN or some other old media says. The internet is advertising LA as the place to be to millons of young people. And this has been going on for the past 3-5 years in a powerful way.

And the amount of private gyms, personal trainers, and endorsement opportunities. Weather doesn’t hurt as well.

I had to go back and make sure I didn't say "Every Movie and TV show" lol I didn't. I mean, if anything LALA Land made LA look like a dream. I always forget how I have to explain myself in more depth on these threads because everybody tends to lose their minds even if I say Hi .

I didn't say LA had an image issue across the board, I mean if it did, we'd obviously be in crisis mode with tourism and etc.. My comment literally wasn't this deep below the surface to get anyone worked up since I'm far from an LA basher. Its not my "Logic", it was literally a comment/opinion to get peoples ideas on the matter since the thread had been dead for over a week (as its been dead now for 3 days) and I wasn't a part of/or missed the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 show that Colemonkee had to clean up apparently.

I'm not saying people wont come here and I didn't mean to equate the medias portrayal with the loony lady from Oklahoma who decided to quit once she realized she had to fly back here every other month . Obviously not talking about social media since social media can make anywhere and anybody look like a good time (what filters were invented for), I'm talking about mass/streaming media.

I was just commenting that I feel the media has made LA seem like a two trick pony. Either a suburban beach paradise, as my friend from Indiana said he viewed it as before he moved here, or a lawless city with horrible infrastructure as the view point from my other coworker from Boston, who decided to transfer here because he liked it so much.

But its natural for people not from a certain area to look at entertainment (Books, magazines, online, social media, movies/TV) and wonder/imagine if that place that they have never been to is exactly like that. Not sure that classifies people as idiots .

When I was younger and went to NYC when NYC was far more dangerous, I expected to get robbed, see mafia guys from the movies etc. But I was 14 and that was pre internet. Yes, it's stupid and it's small minded. But she's from Oklahoma, so....

You're the one who brought up a few people's strange opinions of LA. I'm just pointing out those views seem very outdated and not what I see in real life or on popular social media.

I'm pretty sure most people would laugh if someone said "I'm scared of LA because of certain movies". It just sounds dumb.

Would you be comfortable telling a friend in NYC you were scared to visit Brookyln because of NYPD Blue, CSI NY, and gritty NY rappers? I can understand people being afraid of Chicago or Detroit because of ACTUAL REAL LIFE VIOLENCE being in the news all the time. But that hasn't been a thing for in LA for almost 20 years. And I follow this stuff.

One question: was Goldie rehearsing to be so shallow and empty headed or did this come naturally?

PS was that an Olds custom 88? My father only drove Buicks

That's an Olds Cutlass Supreme... or GM's idea of what young upwardly mobile professional in the 1980s wanted to drive.

Totally OT for this thread but the "This is not your father's Oldsmobile!" ad campaign is widely viewed by people in the car industry as one of the worst automotive ads ever... it did not convince younger buyers to buy one but instead insulted Oldsmobile's core customers who also decided this was not the brand for them anymore.

Not as bad but in the same vein is the current "That's a Buick?" campaign. Seems like GM doesn't really get it.

Personally, I think the car wash tower has the lowest chance of being built in it's current form. I think something will eventually be built there, but the current ownership is unlikely to pull that off, if even stay out of jail.

I think the Toyota dealership tower has zero chance of being build in its current incarnation. In fact, think of all the recent renderings we've seen in the past of proposed tower developments. Very few, if any, look like the original early renderings. Metropolis, Oceanwide, Circa, WG, and Onni's buildings are prime examples. So, in the end, I just hope we get realistic proposals even if they are not groundbreaking in their architectural style.

Disclaimer, I'm from Oklahoma City.

If you simply understand what Oklahoma has to offer and don't like it, than 🞵🞵🞵🞵 it. Don't go. I get it. But I would encourage to rethink it if it's because you don't like it because people like that manager that came out to training, as those types of people exists everywhere.

I have brought several non white friends to OKC, and they had tons of misconceptions about that region. Strangely enough, I've experienced more racists spectacles in person out here than in Oklahoma. You would think it would be the exact opposite. I have family in Bel Air and Laguna Beach that won't go to DTLA or Hollywood unless they absolutely have to because of how scared they are due to the fact they believe they will be stabbed for looking at someone the wrong way.

Misconceptions are alive and well everywhere. You should check Oklahoma out. It might surprise you! Anyways, back to L.A.!

Eater has images of the “stunning” new bar at the Alexandria Hotel across from The Last Bookstore. Inauthentic but still spectacularly transporting, in the kitschy vein of Clifton’s Cafeteria.

That's not a LA thing. That's a city thing. There's many wealthy people in suburbs all over the country that are afraid of their cities cores for the same reasons. That's very different than "I won't go there because I saw a crime movie set there" several years ago. It's just a dumb mindset and I kind of feel sorry for anyone who thinks that way.

Again, this is a outdated view of LA. The city isn't talked about like it was 15-20- years ago. I'm sure a small minority mention gangs and whatever, but it's rare.
Traffic seems to the number one issue why people dont want to visit or relocate.
