Yeah, a discussion that takes a bit of a slight tangent is not the end of the world. I think the posts constantly griping about that are more annoying than the tangents ever are.

I mean, if there were 20 pages of conversation in here about abortion, classic Chevys or Metallica then maybe we'd need moderators to step in for a wet clean up, but a few people talking about crossing Portage and Main in the context of a project actually at Portage and Main is not really a huge deal.

The best way to bring a thread back to being on topic is to post something about the topic itself.

The near complete lack of moderation is why I've given up on having an intelligent conversation on this forum...

I just come for the pretty pictures (of which there are few...) and to mock the """"""""""debate"""""""""" in the P&M thread.

It's too bad, this forum used to be amazing for actual information on projects in Winnipeg, but trolls have been allowed to poison this place...

Then maybe it's time to pass the torch to someone who has more time and more will to keep up moderation duties, no offence. I'm sure there are a few out there who would want that opportunity. The Manitoba threads need proper moderation, which they are currently not receiving.

And now we're talking about mods...

Anybody hear about that building going up near Portage and Main? It's supposed to be really tall.

Winnipeg threads have been pretty civilized for a long time, no need for a change in mods!

Sorry, I'll take responsibility for my portion of contributing to the off-topic jargon. But the Manitoba threads really do need another, more active moderator to keep this from occurring. on a regular basis as they currently are.

I don't really care if there's a little bit of off topic but here we're talking about stuff that's only tangentially related to the actual topic. This building, for example, isn't actually at P and M. Secondly, there's a thread dedicated to discussing people being able to walk across the street as though it's some magic bullet to downtown renewal or will make any difference in any way to anybody but a few die-hard ideologues. Thirdly, there's plenty to discuss about the actual project this thread is supposedly about but since it's a little inconvenient for me to get any pictures I can't provide any.

Comparing this to the end of the world is just a way to keep us off topic. Nobody said it was the end of the world when there are nebulously related topics being discussed. That said, I'm not the only one who's noticed how annoying it is and since the rules are clear it's hardly unreasonable to ask that they be respected.

1. This building is part of Winnipeg Square
2. Winnipeg Square fronts onto Portage and Main

So discussing P&M is not really as off topic as you seem to believe.

I don't give a shit about opening Portage and Main. If I did then maybe I'd be talking about it in the thread dedicated to talking about opening Portage and Main.
Are there any intersections in Changchun that you care about?

EXCEPT there's a whole other thread devoted to the P+M topic. I come here to see updates on the new tower. Not to see the P+M debate spill over into about 10 different threads. LOL

Nope. Not that it matters anyway because here there's either a giant clusterf*ck of a traffic circle or it's redone as a freeway. The Chinese don't think of cities the same way that we do. Pedestrians don't even bother to look before they start crossing the street at any point along it so even if there were barriers a la P and M people would just mindlessly ignore them anyway.

In any case, what does that have to do with the tower we're supposed to be discussing?
