I hate that Hyatt too. When it gets redeveloped I hope it's residential. Downtown Calgary desperately needs a permanent downtown population. Another 50,000 residents between the Bow and the Beltline would be a good start.

It was built in the late 90’s early 00’s and is attached to the Telus Convention Centre. It won’t be redeveloped any time soon. Also, hotels are good for bringing in lots of pedestrians and people to eat at restaurants in places like Stephen Ave. I more so would like to see at the very least that ugly ass blue roof repainted.

Microsoft moving Canadian HQ to Toronto’s CIBC Square

Quote:
Microsoft Canada announced Tuesday a series of major investments across Canada, including moving its Canadian HQ to a brand new CIBC Square office tower when it opens in 2020 in downtown Toronto.

Microsoft will occupy 132,000 square feet over four floors at the project, which is currently under construction at 81 Bay Street by developers Ivanhoé Cambridge and Hines. Move-in is scheduled for September 2020.

As part of the move, the company plans to inject $570 million into Toronto. It will create 500 new jobs, and 500 student placements at first, and over 60,000 jobs in the long-term.

Haha, what western hemisphere metro area within a million people of Calgary's population has a downtown core population of 50,000 or more? I mean, Calgary's already doing really well with a downtown population of 20,000 in only 1.8 km2, not including the Beltline's 25,000. Of course, it'll be great when we get to 50,000... but that is a long time away, even with our torrid pace of development.

The best thing about having a small subway system, is that developments and offices are now moving and concentrating downtown, firing up the street hustle, bustle and life!

Is Toronto's subway system small?

Depends on perspective.

Compared to similar sized cities in industrialized Europe and Asia, yeah.

I'm hoping Calgary. Someone has to be first.

Small? I'm not sure how it's small.....although it is inadequate. Keep in mind small has a few different criteria with regards to a subway system....you'd need to be specific with it.

The Toronto subway is definitely small compared to its peers in Europe and Asia. It's only 77km and would have to triple is size to fit the norm. Toronto's subway ranks 58th globally in system length and 48th by ridership. That's absurdly small for a city of Toronto's size and status.
