Off topic, the funny thing is their HQ is in the same building, just above them!

Just a shot in the dark guess here, but maybe increased costs are due to the NDP planning to use union (unions that voted NDP) labor only? https://vancouversun.com/news/local-news...ke-infrastructure-announcement-on-monday

GTFO. And none of those suits have ever decided to head downstairs and check how their own business is doing.

It could be anything at this point. Land acquisition is expensive too - given uncensored data, property owners could realize just how valuable the real estate they're sitting on is and find ways to fleece TransLink even more.

It's not clear that that policy would apply to TransLink projects as they're not provincial projects, despite receiving provincial funding.

This is true of every single arterial road in Vancouver proper. Changing this would hugely ease congestion in the city, but that is not what the city wants but the opposite. Make every commuters' lives as miserable as they can.

Burnaby is already following Vancouver’s way of treating drivers (just look at Metrotown and Brentwood for god’s sake), and Surrey is adopting it on their streetcar LRT on 104th and KGB. These cities need to — off on intentionally congesting traffic.

No, it's local businesses that go apoplectic when you try to take away street parking, despite having no real evidence.

The City does lost out on the revenue though.

Broadway from Commercial to Cambie has no parking from 7-10am, and again from 3-7pm. Peak hours. Making commuter's lives much easier. The hours for bus only lanes is practically already a no parking lane.

The worst is the arterial roads west to east in mid vancouver (41st and 49th) and marine drive from ubc to marpole down to one lane each way during heavy traffic due to them never being upgraded from their original non congestion era design and street parking. A main road should not have everyone stuck due to someone making a left turn and someone waiting on pedestrians for a right turn.

Agreed, hence the B-Line on 41st and going underground on Broadway and the new corridor plan after the subway's completion.

Except for the one car that never gets the memo; sure, the driver got ticketed, but that's still half an hour of backed-up traffic (buses and cars alike) until the tow truck arrives. Seems better to just completely ban parking altogether.

Broadway is my commute at 8:30am... not sure about 30 minute delays due to one car. The real issue is traffic lights along Broadway, and to a smaller degree cars turning right. The solution you'll find is in a subway that's currently being funded.

If you're also suggesting the solution is to have a BRT ROW along Broadway that's in the array of concept ideas post-subway.

Let's review some documents, shall we?

From Millenium Line Broadway Extension Project: Cost Report (March 2018) (emphasis mine):
Quote:
[...]

The elevated guideway, consisting of a single two track guideway beam, is supported on columns which are supported by deep foundations. The elevated guideway ties into the existing Millennium Line guideway west of VCC-Clark station and extends to the east end of Great Northern Way station before transitioning underground.

A pair of bored tunnels is to be constructed between station structures from the south end of Great Northern Way, and continues to the east face of the Arbutus Station cross-over structure. The estimate assumes two tunnel boring machines will be used to complete the tunnel work. The tunnels include cross passages between the tunnels, and track crossroads east and west of Cambie station.

At station locations, the crossover structures east of Arbutus Station, and the tail track west of Arbutus station, bottom-up construction with temporary traffic decking will be utilized. The structures are all covered with a temporary traffic deck to allow full traffic flow during the day with partially restricted traffic flow at night.

[...]

All station boxes are between 106 and 143 metres long, with 80-metre long platforms, and include a single entry from surface level, except for Cambie Station, which is accessed from the existing Canada Line Broadway station concourse.

[...]

Vehicles are not accounted for in the estimate. TransLink will procure vehicles under a separate procurement.

[...]

The estimate includes procurement and legal work necessary to procure the Project as a DBF [(Design - Build - Finance)].

[...]
This project is going to be super confusing for having a "Main Street station" and a "Granville station" that are not the existing Main Street or Granville stations.

Wait, first problem, single entrance points for all stations again???

Second point, does that cryptic remark regarding Cambie Station mean that it will have 2 entrance points (a new one plus existing Canada Line), or (very worryingly) they are adding no new entrance point and relying entirely on the existing entrance for the entire hub????

Sounds to me like the latter. It may not be as bad as it sounds though as many people who are currently using the entrances are transferring to a bus but will now be transferring to the other line and vice-versa.

Given twin tunnels, I'm pretty much expecting all the underground stations to be shared centre platforms, with the possible exception of Great Northern Way.

True, but a major hub should always have at least two access points.

Aso the current entrance will have insufficient space for faregates given even a moderate increase in passenger traffic.

I agree with you there. Hopefully I am wrong and they are using this as a chance to build a second entrance.

Vancouver without the Broadway extension to UBC is like Toronto without most of the Bloor line, and we're still debating whether it's worth it

I'll admit that I spent most of those thirty minutes getting lunch, and the car was merely gone/towed by the time I left.

No, I'm saying ban all parking - one car whose driver is literally out to lunch shouldn't screw up everything behind it. A busway would likely also have to deal with right-turns (now cutting across from the lane beside them) and pedestrians.
