El Matt's was quite prominent from the south shore of Ladybird (then Town) lake. I left Austin some years ago - does anyone remember when El Matt's closed?

They have been on S. Lamar for many years. (I'm assuming you mean Matt's El Rancho.) But I don't know anything about their previous location(s).

I went to Hill's for the first time earlier this year. The place looks cool and appeared to have potential. But the food was more expensive and subpar to what one gets at Denny's or IHOP, and the service was among the worst experiences I ever had in restaurant. There were six of us, and none of us would consider ever going there again. That was one of my rare restaurant reviews.

Once the castle hill graffiti wall is closed for development the city should just allow that entire underpass (save the memorial sign) be opened up to street artists and call it a day.

It will 1) stand out. 2) Look better 3) Solve two birds with one stone.

I'm definitely ok with this.

Do they even allow pedestrians through the Lamar rail underpass? I don't think I've ever seen anyone walking on that narrow sidewalk. And of course, now with the Pfluger pedestrian bridge, the Lamar bridge is closed to foot traffic.

There's a sad story about a fatal accident that happened under the bridge in 1989.

Kevin, you really need to get more. The sidewalks were widened after the Pfluger Bridge was finished, and they get pretty heavy use.

Yea, and the Lamar Bridge is not closed to foot traffic. I've walked across it myself recently.

Yes it is. It has signs that say emergency use only.

two subjects..

The Lamar Bridge: Closed to Pedestrians EXCEPT emergencies...But I still see goons use it sometimes..

THe Lamar Rail Underpass. Open and heavily used. There is no other "Obvious" way to get up to 5th From 1st in that area. There are ways.... but if you don't know the area and you are coming off the pedestrian bridge, it's the only obvious way.

What kind of bothers me about the sidewalks at the lamar bridge is that there is no place to cross Lamar to the Pfluger bridge for people walking on the west side of the road.

You can cross at 5th and travel the east sideand go through the park and cross at CC and then take the ped bridge stairs. That bridge is a death trap and closed for Good reason and it's less than 5 minutes out of anyone's way to avoid it easily.

Then cross back to the water side of Lamar either through the park or at Riverside.

I have the same thing with Jay walkers on Lamar and Congress when a protected crossing is less than 5 min away.

You cross by walking down BR Reynolds to Cesar Chavez and going under Lamar, then use the pedestrian bridge extension to get on the Pfluger Bridge without having to cross Cesar Chavez.

Lamar isn't really my route into downtown. I usually take Congress, and sometimes South First, but hardly ever go down Lamar.

Anyway, you wouldn't catch me walking through there. It's a death trap, the bridge, and the underpass.

The underpass is actually really nice now and they put up a cover to catch stuff falling off the track (same as electric st)
