The concession part of the project ain't for your sweet-ass. It's for those millions of passengers who are stuck in the airport on layover. Though it will also get additional traffic from originating travelers since the concessions will be on the airside.

The majority of the project cost is for moving the security lines to a) expand capacity, and b) to keep a terrorist attack from killing a line or so of people instead of the entire damn screening queue (hint: get Pre-Check if you want to minimize you chance of being a 'ploded meat bag).

But back to your first point, I believe that Texboy's point was that the DEN's portion of the concession revenue increases the airport's bottom line and allows landing fees to be kept lower.

I'm interested to see if anything happens with the El Jebel tower. I could see an increase in high-rise residential towers in the event that HQ2 comes to Denver, although I can see Amazon's campus being relatively low-rise (i.e. River Mile).

More condos planned for RiNo at 30th & Larimer. They are renovating the existing warehouse building as part of the project.

It's amazing to think that one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country - decade after decade - has called Republic Plaza its tallest building for the past 35 years. Think about that - Republic Plaza has been Denver's tallest building for 35 years. Amazing and somewhat unbelieveable, especially in a quasi-sunbelt city that has seen such explosive growth. Even taking into account the Savings & Loan crash as well as the Stapleton height limits into the mid 1990s, I still find 35 years to be an astounding number and a mind-boggling WTF in such a high-growth city like Denver.

Does anyone happen to know what the Denver MSA population was in 1984?

Not much bigger than Oklahoma City is currently which has an 850 ft tower completed in 2012.

I’ll agree the infill throughout urban Denver has been impressive but the lack of new towers is disappointing.

The fact that Denver has improved so much--like orders of magnitude--in its urban and cosmopolitan qualities over the past 35 years just goes to show you how little tall skyscrapers have to do with the quality of life of a city. I like big towers like everyone else and would be happy to see a new tallest, but it really is quite down my list of wishes for Denver. How about a robust intra-city transit system? Fully developed protected bike and ped networks? Neighborhoods of high-density affordable housing? I'll take those any day over a new tallest.

100% agree, especially as a European from a city that has absolutely no high rises, but is significantly more urbanized than Denver, with a decent streetcar system, etc. Yeah, I love skyscrapers, but they are not necessary to create a great urban experience

Independence Plaza Light Show

Apparently Independence Plaza got bored of Denver, and decided to make a bid to belong in the skylines of Las Vegas or New York's Times Square. This is completely surreal, Denver has seen NOTHING like this before - complete facade illumination with rotating color loops. Let's hope this is a catalyst for encouraging more property managers to invest in exterior illumination; Independence Plaza has gone from being mundane and forgettable to being an exciting landmark that captivates the pedestrian audience and puts Denver on a whole new level of cosmopolitan.

Republic Plaza's New Aircraft Obstruction Lights

Not sure why they made the change, but Republic Plaza now has pulsating red obstruction lights on its roof. This is the first and only building in downtown Denver to have the blinking lights; every downtown building has always featured solid red lights.

I really hope they get the lights in sync with each other; currently the lights blink at different intervals with the end result looking chaotic and somewhat goofy.

I agree.

I've had the pleasure of visiting Denver numerous times over the years and it really has grown and changed so much, for the better. I went there last year and it felt like a proper city with all the bells and whistles. That being said, all cities in the US should look to cities like Copenhagen (Denmark) and Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and less Dubai or Shanghai on how to innovate and develop their cities in environmentally friendly ways.

Here's a look at one of the new neighborhoods in Copenhagen. Everything in that picture was built from the ground up, including the canals. Denver already has its own waterways, perhaps something similar could be achieved there.

I think I just went through this. Complete absolute cluster fuck.....took far more than twice as long as people in the ‘normal’ line.
