Hmm so have any other lotto corporations sponsored an arena or stadium? The "Atlantic Lottery Corporation Arena" seems a hair more plausible than it did before. (Considering ALC is sponsoring the open house events)

Not lotto corporations, but there are some sporting arenas in Europe that have names from online betting (Cashpoint, etc). not sure if that would be considered as a lottery industry.

Lottomatica is the largest lottery operator in Italy and they sponsor a major concert / sports arena in Rome (Palalottomatica). They technically aren't the lottery itself (which would be the government), however.

Medavie Blue Cross is out, since lots of venues are sponsored by insurance companies.

How about Midland?

I'm beginning to warm to the idea of it being called the ALC Centre. Naming the arena after a lottery corporation would certainly be unique (in North America at least), and they could have telegraphed the naming of the centre by announcing that ALC was sponsoring the activities on the plaza this weekend coming up. The more that I think of this, the more I think this is becoming an increasingly likely possibility.......

Yeah bud. That's what I was thinking, The ALC Center. And I mean if they have any connections to the corporation branch of the government this could have been an "inside" deal.

I like the sound of it but would prefer ALC Arena over centre, just roles of the tongue better

I'm sure it'll be the "Centre Atlantic Lotto Atlantique Centre", or "CALAC" just to make it annoying for speakers of both languages.

What's wrong with just having two names?

It would make sense, I could even see people shortening it up to say for example "we're going to the ALC tonight", the Atlantic Lottery Centre, makes for a quick short acronym that rolls off the tongue and a play on the sponsors own acronym lots of branding power there.

I'm going to put this here as it is attached to the potential parking issues Downtown with the centres opening.

This is an Adds headline: Moncton Events Centre, PARKING, 3000 spots on 50 acres.

and the firs line of the advertisement:A major REALITY-shock is about to occur when people wanting to go to an event will turn in circles for fifty minutes and still not find a parking spot in downtown Moncton.

this sounds to good to be true because it is the "parking" Is a field that would take over 1.5 hours to walk to the event centre from. I think people are really in a cash grab mood, and this is only one of many fake, or misleading Adds I've seen for either free, or cheap parking "Walking distance" to the event Centre.

Sounds like the guy with a farm in Coverdale who wanted to have events centre built on his property. He's tried to hijack this thread a couple of times, but was banned on both occasions because he is essentially a nutter.

Yeah he was the one with the racino proposal. He’s pretty desperate to get rid of that land. I remember he said something. Before about building a bridge across the river on his property to. He’s nuts lol.

I won't settle for anything short of "Centre d'événements Lotto Atlantique 2018 Atlantic Lotto Events Centre"

Haha, I hope it's not that. If ALC, I doubt if it would simply be called "Centre ALC Center" either... many people outside of the area wouldn't know what ALC stands for. I think it would be more in the line of "Centre Atlantic Lotto Atlantique Centre".

Just all speculation, although I do hope it IS ALC rather than an Irving company.

The City won't see any money from this of course as they gave away the naming rights to SMG. However according to reports the money that SMG receives will be put into a contingency fund for use in building repairs, etc.

We shall see on Thursday.

A tribute to Raven Spanier, architect of the downtown Moncton events centre:

Why the Moncton Events Centre stands as Raven Spanier’s legacy
https://ideas.stantec.com/blog/why-the-moncton-events-centre-stands-as-raven-spanier-s-legacy

Quote:
Raven saw the Events Centre as an opportunity for Moncton to make its downtown more of a destination. He felt strongly about incorporating mixed-used development—with apartments and retail—near the site. Could the facility act as a beacon to draw residents to downtown? Could it become a catalyst for downtown redevelopment, to help other businesses grow? Raven believed it could.

He hoped to pull people to the plaza in front of the building, to create a community gathering place. Even when there wasn’t an official event happening, Raven wanted residents to spend time there. And now, we have that opportunity. If you gather a bunch of friends for a basketball game in the plaza, or bring your kids to the ice rink in the wintertime, you’ll be honoring him.

Raven had a term for this vision of Moncton, this idea of an architecturally forward-thinking city with a revitalized sense of community. He called it “Monctonia.”
There are two giants largely responsible for the events centre. Ian Fowler had the original vision of what sports and entertainment could do for the future of the city of Moncton, and planted the seed for the events centre. Raven Spanier was responsible for realizing this vision through his inspired architectural design.

It is very, very sad that neither of these two visionaries lived to see the completion of this inspired project. We owe them both a great debt of gratitude.......

Probably coincidence. All the talk about ALC/Atlantic Lotto Corps; these boards are crawled by bots so they'd pick it up and adjust the spam appropriately.

Well, this weekend is going to be interesting. Grand Opening events all day Sat & Sun.

Weather is looking great for the weekend and I'm definitely going to walk my 8 minutes from my house to the ALC Centre [pending a possible edit in name ] and enjoy the festivities.

Parking. How many folks are going to visit the opening ceremonies this weekend? Where will they park? This weekend's event should be a small test to the parking issue.

Keith Urban for Wed Sept 12, pretty much Sold Out.
Chicago for Sat Sept 15, looks 90% Sold Out.
John Mellencamp for Wed Sept 26, looks 50% sold.
Wild Cats season opener for Fri Sept 28, looks 90% Sold Out.

Those are some pretty good numbers. Friday Sept 28 will be the true test not only for parking, but the whole downtown Moncton restaurant/bars/hotel/ traffic situation will be really tested.

I believe the Cats home opener is closer to.80%. They havent opened up the extra seating on the ends yet. So it looks sold on the ticketmaster website. I do believe it will be a sell out though. Moncton isnt traditionally a city that buys tickets in advance..particularily for hockey. So seeing all those tickets sold makes me smile. The walkup crowd will scrounge up any remaining tickets if it doesnt sell out in the next few weeks.
