Hey, The Churchill had a soft opening. I stopped by Matt's Big Breakfast today and swung through the shipping containers after eating. Matt's food is delicious, by the way. I don't know why it took me so long to try it.

Was at the Churchill Saturday night, it was definitely a place I’ll find myself back at. The place was full and the vibe was pretty relaxed. I guess I thought the Brill Line would be selling more Az-centric craft brews but it’s just craft brews from all over, not complaining though.

This is my least favorite project. I don't get the shipping container fad in the U.S., esp in Phoenix. I get the whole it's cool and ecologically friendly stuff [I watch HGTV on the regular], but it's not close to a shipyard or seaport or any such long term cool rich history of shipping containers in this part of Phoenix.

I don't get it. It is cool, hopefully a temporary solution for a vacant lot, but I would hope that it is redeveloped into a permanent structure at some point.

P.S. - My next time in Phoenix, I'll be sure to stop by and grab a beer here to take in the atmosphere along my walking tour of downtown -- which is constantly changing and continuing to blossom, very exciting!

Churchill is absolutely a temporary use for the land however. The dirt is so overzoned it doesn't make sense to have a more permanent project.

They are remodeling the office tower into lofts.

Thats pretty deep, I just think shipping containers make ugly building material

I love Churchill. Variety is the spice of life. Something different and unique adds to the city. It adds much to the area. If it lasts 5, 10, 20 years awesome. If it is replaced in time with a 45 story tower....awesome.

Just because we are not near a port, doesn't mean we can't have this type of construction with containers. You don't have to have a connection or history with them to have them be fun and purposeful.

Again, it adds much more than an empty lot. Plus it a fun destination for many, adds jobs, and creates a cool vibe.

Ehhh ... you can complain about the aesthetic, lament the financial and zoning considerations that led to its construction, and get rip roaring drunk off the beer all in the same night.

You don't get any more organic than that.

I went there for lunch today. This seems like the DeSoto concept better executed. Upon entering, it was immediately clear where to buy food, where to get a drink, and where to sit. The big fans helped keep the seating cool, although some misters would have been even better. I wonder if they've thought of a way to heat the space during cold winter nights.

I don't like it, but I will go there! -- That is next time I'm in Phoenix.

I say I don't like it, without ever stepping foot there. So, I'd like to actually take a stroll, walk in and grab a beer and then make a more informed opinion.

I will say that I do continue to not like the shipping container fad though.

E] Last December I stayed at the Sheraton. Next time I'll probably try something new. Right now I'm leaning towards the Kimpton - Palomar.

I may be late on this- Just rode by the Link on the rail into work this morning, looks like they jumped the crane on the Link about 10-12 stories. Couldn't get a pic unfortunately but may be able to get one on my way home today.
