I agree. Not every other development in the surrounding area needs to be 40+ floors (the last thing we need is another tabletop skyline...) but a collection of 30-35 floor towers around Icon would be ideal. Soho Italia is a good height to act as a complimentary piece for Icon the Dows Lake skyline.

Icon is absolutely tall for the area, and for Ottawa, which makes the upcoming 50/60+ floors at Bayview even more outstanding. It's pretty crazy to think about the added density and people we're going to see in the next 10 years on this O-Train corridor.

On the west side of floor 5 you can see the first signs of cladding being installed. Actually look more like some glass panes at this point. Too soon to start criticizing it!

This building is going to start being a beast even when it hits 30 floors...especially considering it's at lower elevation than a bunch of the other buildings to the east and west of it...

You may want to flip your numbers. Provided there aren't any more setbacks, realistically one floor takes 2 weeks or so. I expect that if all goes well the full height will be reached by next spring or summer.

That being said, I'm actually quite fine with the buildings being the height they are now at around 20 stories. As much as it may be exciting to see a new tallest, I think Nuovo and Icon look just fine at around the 20 floor height. It's more a matter of having a diversity of building heights (like more midrises in the area) that would make the occasional highrise pop out more.

I wonder if Claridge will put on some sort of event when the building passes Place De Ville to become the new tallest in town....even as a sales boasting gimmick, if nothing more.

Actually, wasn't this same thing done with the BOW and other buildings out west when they surpassed former "tallest's", in addition to a top-out ceremony? I think they did this for the Stantec HQ when it became the tallest building in Canada (or at least Western Canada), outside of Toronto...

After they reach the fifth floor, it was a floor per week pace until another accident occured. Than it was back to a floor a week until the rainy weather hit early August. Typically, one floor a week is the average for project like this.

Ah... I misread June as July on ac888yow's image... here's an updated guesstimate - assuming winter doesn't slow them down too much.

I can now see it clearly when coming down the 417 hill out of Kanata. It's far but will definitely stick out from the crowd once completed.

That's about right...lots left to do.

But...is it too early to start complaining about the Claridge cladding? I can see it going up from my office window, and so far it's unremarkable. Strip-mall storefront comes to mind. Whatever's cheapest I suppose?
