I think you're a bit too high on DC and a bit too low on ATL. Check out the companies that are headquartered in ATL and the ones that have moved here in the past few years alone. Then check out the companies headquartered in DC and the ones that have moved out in the past few years alone.

And I think it's silly at best to assume that all of Amazon's workforce will come from the DMV area only.

Generally nobody around these parts appreciates anyone "candy coating" your thoughts. With that said, if your lady is rocking 300 lbs on a thin day. I suggest you tell her she looks thin if she asks.

The same can be said here with respect to race. The fact is nobody had a choice what color they were born and it damn sure shouldn't be a reason someone is denied respect or an f'en job for that matter!

Enough on the subject!

Amazon Headquarter Employees May Want to Get Out of Seattle

The wild fires out west may result in Jeff Bezos giving extra thought about locating HQ2 in a place where employees will not be exposed to high concentrations of cancer causing smoke.

https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environme...e-air-quality-haze-smoke-wildfire-health

Though wildfires throw off particles of all shapes and sizes, the biggest health dangers come from the smallest ones, 2.5 microns or less in diameter. Known as PM2.5, these particles penetrate deep into the airways, causing inflammation, asthma attacks, and cancer.

I would change your wording to African Americans and nix "blacks'' from your vocabulary especially when the tone and context of your statement is negative. That is not being just being Politically Correct, but racially sensitive.

I will erase my response when you change yours.

You are 100% correct tech has a huge diversity issue, but almost ZERO has to do with them.

The fact is minorities are not getting STEM degree - therefore, it is very difficult companies to hire minorities in any significant numbers.

Trust me I don't care what color you are, if you have the proper degree/certifications you will get a job in tech in 2018.

I think its safe to say you have no practical knowledge of Silicon Valley's hiring practices and tech company demographics in general. They lack racial and gender diversity. Statistics don't lie. Intentional cultural engineering out non-white and non-Asian male minorities. This practice is intentional, not due to hiring the most qualified, but due to hiring official's bringing in talent they are comfortable being around. Tech companies locate in areas of high Caucasian density almost exclusively. ATL is majority African American. This non-politically correct statement is true, and certainly works against ATL with HQ2.

This was a strategic move by Bezos in order to curry favor with America's most powerful residents.

I am not trying to condemn ATL. I consider it a city with an exceptional future, and started to purchase a house in the northern part of downtown before the area gentrifies further. However, my experience in corporate America taught me practical lessons about recruiting and retention in tech. A powerful hiring bias exists along with a location bias.

New Rules

Let's stop this race/tech discussion now. This thread should be focused on events or data points concerning HQ2. And contrary to outsiders opinion, we welcome people from other cities that have factual data that connects to HQ2 even if it is going to another city (which I will personally bet anyone it is not, but that is neither here nor there).

Let the games begin...

For some reason you intrigue me Mentallect - in a good and bad way and that is OK. You totally don't have to answer these question but I am dying to know:
  • Are you a minority?
  • Are you a millennial?
  • Have you lived/live in Atlanta and how long?
  • Have you lived/live in the DC Metro and how long?
  • Without being specific, do you work in tech? Is it a large or small tech company?

Listen I am a Liberal (which at the root definition means EDUCATED so I wear it as a badge of honor), but I do come from a long Dynasty of White Trailer Trash. So I will be the last person to say racism doesn't exist today because I see it in my own ignorant family members. With that said, I will double down on my earlier statement - Tech companies in 2018 "generally" do not have have racist hiring practices so long as you are qualified with the appropriate experience, degree(s) and/or certification(s). Currently there are almost 1.5 million unfilled tech opening in the US so "the market" has leveled the playing field at least for now.

Here I go breaking the rules - O fuck it - it's open mike day - talk about what you want!

There are enough minorities with STEM degrees, and many STEM hires do not even have STEM degrees. They just happen to be white men. Numbers do not lie, people do.

My demographic information won't be shared on a public forum for reasons I cannot publicly disclose. Tech companies have issues hiring minorities. Again, numbers provide basis for my assertions.

I can appreciate not sharing your personal info. I tend to be an open book, but that is probably a function of my genetic trailer trash genes.

If what you are saying is true and I am totally open to your thesis, there should be a high unemployment rate for African Americans with STEM degrees....correct? I have a Big Data background - so info is my specialty and I can't find one article to validate there is a high unemployment rate with African Americans with STEM degrees.

Can you explain why I can not find any data to validate this?

This discussion has gotten way off topic, having gone from silly Chicago trolling to ignorant racist stereotyping. Hopefully, it'll be cleaned up soon enough.

Getting back to Amazon HQ2, below is yet another analysis show how the finalist stack up. It's mostly based on freight traffic, but (with exception to LA) the cities that made the top 5 seem reasonable overall...

1. Northern VA
2. Atlanta
3. Chicago
4. Austin
5. Los Angeles
