I purchased a condo on one of the highest floors and my Tarion stipulates delivery April 2, 2020. Unfortunately no public access to roof area and the restaurant is planned for the ground floor facing Carling.

Perhaps the finished exterior won't be as crap-tastic as CP I-IV (sorry for those of you that live, or have lived in them, but they are kinda blah compared to what they could have done). For at least a little while, I see this being the most followed project on this sub-forum.

Holy Guacamole! That really paints a picture. I drove down Bronson from the airport parkway today. From that viewpoint it looks just about as tall as the Sir William Logan building (21 floors estimated 71m) (that brown government office building near it). When looking at these photos, one can't help but think how long any of the detached homes immediately adjacent to these high rises will remain, before the majority of Little Italy is redeveloped...

I guess demand for condo units, or expensive singles, will determine that. Given the big plans at Lebreton, Zibi, and elsewhere it might be awhile before we see dramatic changes in Little Italy.

The key will be to manage that redevelopment in a way that won't kill the charm of Little Italy. Ideally, Preston Street would be limited to low-rise (up to 4 storey) dwellings, and leave the high-rise towers to the fringes such as on Champagne Street and along Carling (such as the former Dow Honda site). That way, Preston can grow its street life rather than killing it.

Wow! I was looking at this building from the 417 on my way into work this morning and wondering if that crane is at final height. From the diagram attached, it is obviously NOT! This is gonna be a beast!

This is what I would hope for. An outright demolition of Little Italy will destroy it. Fill in the empty lots and surface parking. Don't cause a mass exodus of the community.

There are also empty lots in neighbouring Chinatown due to fires over the years. Those should be rebuilt long before we start eliminating single houses.

Thanks for the pics! I work in the area and see the work close-up daily. Now I can better imagine what doubling Icon's current height will look like. Obviously a big deal for Ottawa and in a prominent location at that.

This tower will, however, make a lot more sense if and when it is joined by similarly tall towers in the area. Soho Italia across the street is the one most likely to follow. Whether or not the Sky development on the former Dow Honda site ever gets done remains to be seen.
