Before anyone asks why didn't they use it for the entire line, I suspect that is because it it isn't flexible and thus needs to be attached to a ridged ceiling, which you only have in the tunnels.
It looks as though the rigid catenary in the photo is suspended from wires..

The render you posted earlier shows a regular catenary wire in that section of the station (with the rigid catenary being used underneath the concourse). Things may have changed by now though of course.

With supposedly 3 months left to go, i’m a bit sceptical about the date. The original schedule had nothing but testing in the last months and they haven’t even begun regular runs through the tunnel. However it does seem like much of the work left to do is mostly modular piecework.

You are right. That does seem rather strange to me. It is firmly affixed to the concourse level further down though. Maybe the span is short enough that they were able to get it to work, especially in a controlled environment.

And you expect renders to accurately depict the final product? The architect probably assumed regular catenary would be required due to the high ceiling, but they managed to find a way to get rigid catenary to work later.

It does seem to be going right down to the wire (aren't i clever tying the two conversations together )

Still, it seems like there won't be enough testing time even if everything is built on time. It might mean the line will not be in use until quite a bit after handover

It looks like the core part of the line is nearly completed... Probably just a few more weeks. Nothing prevents them from testing the full line as cosmetic work goes one for the following few months.

Agreed. They can work on the final touches of the stations while trains run through them. I gather the biggest concern is that the signalling and control system works properly and I believe they have already started testing that and just need to extend the tests across the line.

Seeing those downtown stations is just starting to give me the feeling that Ottawa may finally be outgrowing it’s long-standing small town zeitgeist.

Good Day - NOT - .

Yep. As feared, he recycled the 'inspiration' from his Calgary 'installation'.
One wonders if he also recycled the sourcing thereof, even if he did 'promise' not to !
To quote that american megalomaniac ..... < SAD! >.

I am not so sure I am too keen on being in those subway stations late at night when service is not frequent. Most subways run frequently right up to the end of service. Frequent trains maintain public safety in those stations. 15 minute frequency is not frequent for a subway.

Good Day.

....precisely one of the big concerns I had when I first joined this forum.
Security - proper SECURITY - will be a big bugbear. Video and callboxes are all fine and good.... on paper, in plans, in community presentations.

Real Security is a transit cop IN each station.... at ALL times.

A police response to a problem 2 minutes later is just not sufficient. The perps are long gone.
And not to be sexist nor anything else discriminatory, but it deserves proper attention - FEMALE customers deserve PROPER security.
They are the most visible of any group or special group, who ALL deserve proper security.

We Shall See !?!

The LRT tunnel is mot a subway. A subway is a type of rail system that carries more passengers than an light metro system it can use tunnels or be elevated.

Montreal's Metro has the following Weekend Frequencies (and weekday non-peak isn't much better):
Green line	Every 6 to 12 minutes
Orange line Every 6 to 12 minutes
Yellow line Every 5 to 10 minutes
Blue line Every 8 to 11 minutes
source

I don't see a huge difference between 12 minutes and 15 minutes in terms of public safety.
