Basically Thursday night I got 3 hours sleep. I was like a kid waiting for Santa. My interviews started Friday morning at 10:00 AM, but I got there at 8:00 AM (because I am freak and plan for disaster(s)). BTW - the AWS office is in Building 200 at Terminus, but you park in the Terminus condo building. The parking deck is like 9 stories - this detail will matter later. At 1:00 I had to deliver a 60 minute presentation, and the hiring manager said, "I could not have done a better job" (CODE BROWN). My last interview wrapped up at 4:45 PM. I rode the whole day on adrenaline.

O. M, F'en..........G - I got to the lobby and thought I was going to have to ask the the Lobby person if they had a wheelchair I could use to go to the parking garage. So I literally crawl to the next building to get my car and apparently developed Alzheimer's in the course of 8 hours. Not only did I forget what floor I parked, but I forgot the Make and Model of my car. For 45 minutes I walked up and down every floor of the parking garage - TWICE!

I finally found my car, but left upset to learn I didn't own a Bentley.

Congrats, glad to hear it went well! That makes me remember that feeling when I got my current job. They were one of the companies that offered on the spot at the end of the day. I was given a piece of paper with my salary, everything got blurry and I almost passed out, but played it cool and said I would get back to them. Left the building and thankfully they had a cab for me back to the airport, as I couldn't function. Just sat in the the cab in disbelief.

I heard Atlanta would hear something in 60 days - that was like 5 weeks ago. So that could mean Atlanta would hear the final cut the end of this month or beginning of September. This aligns to what I posted previously. I would expect Amazon to ask for best and final responses be made in a week or two. After all cities only had a little over a month to respond to the RFP (Oct 15, 2017) and that was a hell of a lot of work.

The bottom line is Amazon already knows the city they want for HQ2 and the next step is just to increase the incentives Amazon will receive.

The last batch articles that came out claiming cities received an official letter from Amazon stating a new shortlist could take "a couple more months" was on 6/20.

I have no doubt we'll hear something before labor day, partially because a ton of stakeholders will be on vacation and busy catching up with other work following the holiday, which would delay any HQ2 movement further.

Interestingly enough, Amazon made their last official announcement on 1/18, while those batch of news articles came out on 6/20. So it wouldn't surprise me if they choose that same 3rd week of the month (which would be the week of 8/20) to announce the final shortlist.

Absolutely not. Companies do this everyday by getting states to compete for projects when they who they want. They use competing offers/best incentives to drive the best deal in the city/state they want to locate.

Look at this from a different perspective - looking for a job. You submit resumes to several jobs, but you know the company you ultimately want to work for should they give you the offer. You can also use these competing offers to get a better compensation package from the company you selected. Would it be okay for companies to sue you for not taking their offer?

It is the reason people on the Left call bullshit when the GOP talk about entitlements. Nobody gets more entitlements than Corporate America/1%.

This is equivalent to a job interview.

You knew going in that there would be a bunch of hoops to jump through when you applied and yet there still be the possibility that you not get the job.

Because there were no promise made that you had the job, you can't claim any damages.

So to answer to your question in a nutshell, no. And any reasonable judge would toss out such a silly lawsuit.

All of that said, I do think what Amazon's doing to these cities *IS* unethical, even if not illegal. But Bezos doesn't come across as the type who gives a fuck about that.

BTW, I have an HR degree and work in purchasing, so I'm not just shooting what I say out of my ass.

No, the cities would have no legal basis to sue. However, they would be authorized to put Amazon executives in a headlock and drag them around the room several times.
