Condo development approved for Stratford.

"the development will consist of two 18 Unit, 3 storey buildings and one 12 unit, 3 storey building which will all be on lands owned and operated by a condominium corporation"

"BE IT RESOLVED that Council grant approval to an application received from Marshall MacPherson Ltd., to develop a 48 unit condominium development on parcel number 882084, Lot 15-1 (2.23 acres) on Shakespeare Drive"

I feel like the Charlottetown / Stratford / Cornwall area is experiencing a second significant wave of urban sprawl. Many many developments going up here in there without great city planning. This is going to make traffic worse. We will have to spend more money on building more highways. Condo sprawl is still sprawl. I am ringing the alarm, bells.

I think the new condos above will be close to these buildings;

Literally no sidewalks, limited vegetation, not mixed use development (optional, but no one does it), massive parking lots, no nearby business so people must drive. (Especially becuase there are no bike paths, and also the public transit 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵.)

i don't disagree with you, however they do have public transit, bike paths and are located about 1500ft from the soon to be expanded Sobeys mall in Stratford.

I know T3 exists, it's just not to many people use it, and it could probably be improved to increase ridership. I really care about this city and I'm sure everyone else in the forum would agree with that last statement. We might just not totally agree with how things should be done.

P.E.I. construction industry in need of 300 to 400 new workers

About 400 hires so far in 2018, says association's general manager.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-ed...-shortage-skilled-tradespeople-1.4776350

Read the article. Now the industry is relying on immigrants to fill positions. I wonder why this is. The cut-throat wages they pay, its any wonder there are no workers here. The asinine statement "PEI can't offer the highest wages, but there are other benefits to living and working here". Like what, a free gym membership.

Like I've always said, "PEI is a beautiful place to live, but a hell of a place to make a living".

Cornwall Update

What a difference a year makes. The North River Rink is gone, a new highway is in place and now apartments are being built. All good!

Pretty generic looking apartment building though (we have this problem in Moncton too BTW).

Yes, I agree. In Ch'town that is changing. The new Habbi building on North River Rd and the two new proposals by APM (one has been approved on Queen St.) will break ground for a new building layout for apartment and condo design.
Designs are changing.

Pan American Properties Inc. Front and Rear Yard Variance Approved
An application from Pan American Properties Inc. was approved allowing a development on parcel number 327973, located on lot 18-1 along the extension of Michael Thomas Way for the purpose of building a 79-unit, 5 storey apartment building, to receive a front and rear yard variance. The variance will allow for a parking lot on the front of the building rather than at the rear due to the orientation of the property on the waterfront.

Pan American Properties Inc. Height Exemption Approved
After revising the building design components at Council’s request, an application from Pan American Properties Inc. was approved allowing the development to proceed with a maximum height exemption of 57’ 8”. The development is on parcel number 327973, located on lot 18-1 along the extension of Michael Thomas Way for the purpose of building a 79-unit, 5 storey apartment building. The approval is subject to a number of conditions including that the design and construction be in accordance with conceptual drawings submitted to the Town of Stratford. The approved variance will allow the roof structure to have a variety of heights which will add to the overall design of the building.

Airport Update

I'm not sure who is constructing this site.
Does anyone know who is building or what this will be?

It's an okay design, it would look better with all solid colors and none of that faux stone or wood.

Although; compared to the original design, this one looks kinda bad.

I would agree that the design is better than this:

I'm for it because it's different! I agree with the original design but anything is better than the shingled topped eye-sores we've seen being built in the Charlottetown area for the last 30+ years. It's time Stratford started looking like a small city/town and not a bedroom village, even though that may be hard to cover up. I'm for it!

Oh yes, I agree with you 100% that the design is better than the ugly and generic buildings that are abundant. The old design was really nice though.
