Not sure if this has already been discussed or not but does anyone else find it odd that only a fraction of the land parcels are up for bid? Wouldn't Amazon want/need all of it?

Amazon would not be buying the land- the LA developer who is building the Hawks development would be buying the land

OK I signed up for this site just for this thread. I followed Atlanta3000 over from another site.

I had thought Atlanta was a lock for HQ2 even before I read all this and now I have no doubt after following this thread!

So is HQ2's ultimate location going to be in Midtown or is that temporary?? I had gotten excited about HQ2 possibly going in the Gulch. Is that still a possibility or is it definitely going to be in Midtown. Midtown would be great too but I think downtown has more potential.

If Amazon moves to Atlanta, Midtown (AT&T building) will at least be its temporary home. Assuming it's the volume of employees that it could/should be, it most likely will occupy multiple locations making the Gulch a real possibility long term.

I don't see the Gulch for Amazon and the reason is the proximity of the stadium and the arena. Events at these facilities will be a nightmare with AMZ ingress/egress going on as well. Not just vehicular traffic but the strain on MARTA. MARTA can barely handle the traffic it gets after events now.

The amount of money the city will see with additional taxes will more than makeup buying a few more trains or adding another stop or two. I think we're a long way from speculating on how Atlanta will change but it will definitely grow much faster.

I'm really hoping Amazon announces soon. MARTA is looking to make a selection for infrastructure expansion in September. Beltline Rail Now! is pushing for NO crosstown transit lanes (except maybe streetcar extension?) in lieu of building out the entire BeltLine w/LRT, which I find to be a bit asinine, although I digress.

It's not that easy.

First, Amazon will have a good idea of the amount of the increase in taxes, and will want that money as part of the incentive package.

Second, it's going to take a lot more than just a few more trains. It's a total redisign of the area with BRT lanes, Light rail, and car lanes being added. That's a lot of money.

Third, a big week day event at the stadium is a mess now. Imagine doubling the volume of people. Everything will lock up.

All of this can be over come, but it's going to take a lot of City, State, and Federal money.

I've been saying the only real fix for westside traffic is a westside tunnel under Northside Drive running between interstates 20 and 75, 4 miles with 3 lanes each direction including one lane dedicated BRT. If Prague could build the 6-lane (3+3) Tunel Blanka that runs 3.4 miles and having several entries and exits then we can manage it too. It could also have a short spur to 85 as well.

Atlanta Hawks games (41 home games) are usually in the evening 8 p.m.-ish, way past the normal working hours for most of the employees. The Falcons usually only play on Sunday afternoons (8 home games). Atlanta United I don't know much about but I would think most of the games would be after normal work hours.
