YOW sees multiple weather YYZ diversions almost every month and the airport sees 747s and Antonovs regularly. KLM also used to service YOW with a 747.
I'm curious as to why YOW would be seeing Antonovs on a regular basis? I'm going to go out on a wing (insert laughter) here and assume you are talking about the An-225. There are only 2 in operation so why is it flying to our nations capital so much? I know it's been there this week but that's not a regular occurrence for it is it?

Theres also the AN 124 a beast in it's own merit. There are many more of those and they make frequent stops in places like Winnipeg even.

The most common reason for these visits is to handle satellite cargo for activities undertaken at Canadian Space Agency's David Florida Laboratory.
Correct. However my main point was that aircraft do divert to YUL on a regular basis when the weather in YYZ is bad. I have also noticed that Lufthansa seems to prefer Detroit for YYZ diversions.
I never said they dont. I said YOW sees more YYZ diversions than YUL.
the 124 is at YEG a bit more regularly as well. I have seen the 225 here a few times as well. but that is a rare beast. I have seen int at least 3 times when I did work in Siberia.

Which is why i go back to Capitals at the ACC every now and then when I'm bored.... They're so short, I've been doing the back and forth a few times now. Nothing beats doing TWR one month, and then TCU another!
Now if only I could get payed ATC 12 like i should be....
The airline recently announced plans to start its own loyalty program from scratch, and the offer Wednesday seems to be part of that larger plan, as if the offer is accepted the new owners would convert all five million Aeroplan members and points to the new Air Canada program.
Air Canada is teaming up with three financial services giants to try to buy its former loyalty program, Aeroplan, from its current owner.
Air Canada, Toronto-Dominion Bank, CIBC and Visa made the announcement Wednesday they want to buy Aeroplan from Aimia, in exchange for taking over the liability of $2 billion worth of outstanding Aeroplan points, plus $250 million in cash.

Great plans for YEG! Airport developments are definitely good all around, diversification and tons more non-aviation revenue streams depending how the development arrnagement is
Well, we are approaching that time of year again when AC usually announces new routes for next summer season.
This year however will be different. They won't be announcing as many long haul routes as the last few years, mainly because they are running out of new frames.
Here's a summary of the situation. Next year, 5 mainline 767s will leave the fleet and only 1 will be left by Dec 2019. However 4 additional A333s are coming online next year, along with 2 remaining B789s. So in 2019, the long haul frame count should be +1. With more Max 8s coming online, and with most Rouge 767s moving out east, there might be room for AC to announce a new route or two for next summer out of YYZ/YUL and maybe even YVR.
Will they? Won't they? If so, what routes will they launch? With only 1 767 left by the end of next year, what will happen to YOW-LHR/FRA and YYC-NRT? Will the Max 8 take over YOW-LHR? Will YOW-FRA and/or YYC-NRT stick around?
Any possibiilty of AC launching new routes from YYT/YHZ/YQM/YQB to Europe with the Max 8 ?
Interesting times ahead for AC. Let the speculation begin.
