Is that all there is to show after all this time? What a joke to have the City munchkins play developer. This is the role of the private sector and the new Kennedy Government when it comes in should limit the role of municipalities from playing developer and constructor.

There is a lot going on at Blatchford that we aren't seeing on the surface right now. I know for a fact the company I work for has provided materials for this project and companies bought a fair amount from us to work on this project.

I was hoping for the selection process to be done by now but they are only finished the first step in a two step process. They say they will begin the second step in early July. It seems like they are working part-time on a job that should be a full-time job.

You mean like most videos for every other type of development. What's the big deal really??

Just turn the site into unmaintained parkland and call it a day. The City obviously does not have the skills to execute the program in a timely and effective manner.

it is no big deal... it is like most videos for every other type of development.

and it will be a very, very long time before you will be able to shoot a video at blatchford that will come anywhere close to replicating the lifestyle or the images depicted in this one.

one of the keys to long-term success in our industry has always been the ability to under-promise and over-deliver. i'm afraid i don't see much potential for that here. which only leaves over-promising and under-delivery.

Under promising and over delivering is what you would call all the bullshot renders developers use to sell the idea to the community? Or the “sorry we had to cut all the amenities out for reasons” situations?

i've been at it for more than 4 decades, most recently on my own but previously for a small number of local, national and international developers and i'll stand by my comments for every project i've been involved on with every one of them. would there be unanimous agreement on that in each and every case from those less familiar? perhaps, but i don't have to look at them when i shave in the morning. is that universal? maybe not, but i was commenting on those of us who have long-term success, not every tom, dick and harry who can get a permit that often shouldn't be issued.

^you have proven time and time again to be one of the most respectable and professional persons in the industry but I would say you are the minority. I am tired of developers giving us garbage and saying that’s what we wanted.

Blatchford is very important (in my opinions the most important project currently ongoing) but I disagree with the idea that private developers would do this plot of land justice. Sure the timeframe would have improved but I garauntee you it would
Be the same cookie cutter garbage that we are used to, with all amenities slashed from the scope.

Private development with strict (and I mean strict!) design guidleines could have worked I suppose.

No room to promise and deliver as promised?

Im as disappointed as anyone this won't live up to the original grand vision. If you measure to that, it is promising to under deliver.

Does that mean it will be a terrible development? I don't think so. There is a new vision that can be delivered on that is still an overall positive.

so you’re acknowledging that before a single person or company moved in it won’t live up to the original grand vision? the one we held a world wide design competition for in order to select the best of the best to articulate that vision?

which website are we supposed to take as the promise? the first? the second? the third? the fourth? as each one moves further from that original vision, at what point in time is the promise the one to measured against?

we don’t even have the original design team we chose at the table any more...
