I was at TVA's open house during Design Week. My recollection was that there is a retractable cover that moves along the cables and into the big ring around the top.

That's gorgeous, but I'm surprised by the lack of a retractable roof too.

Sure, our summers are dry, but we see a lot of rain in April, May & June... and let's not forget about October.

It also looks like it's positioned to have most fans facing into the sun, but I guess that would keep most of the players facing away from it (this rendering is just a concept of course, so who know what if anything will be built).

Not sure if that will make it look more like a retractable teepee or an umbrella?

I'll be honest, if part of their program is repairing the streetscape along Broadway from the foot of the bridge to the other side of I-5 (even if it's mostly on the south side) you can count me in. They can hold gladiator games in there for all I care. It would be especially encouraging if they could/would come to some sort of visionary compromise with the Albina Vision folks.

Not a big fan, I was hoping for a more traditional Camden Yards or Saefco field look. To me baseball has a certain Architectural feel to it and this isn't it. This feels more like a Soccer or Olympic stadium. Don't get me wrong, I'd be over the moon if we get this, just being an old baseball fogey. I'll be interested to see if I'm in the majority or minority on this one. Surprised there is no Safeco style retractable roof option either.

Im with you, I think it looks way too futuristic like the marlins park. I like the retro look. Brick facade. I don't see how this captures views of the skyline or broadway bridge either.

Normally I would get all over comments like this, but I agree too with these remarks. I would like the stadium to face SW with a downtown orientation. The sunsets would look awesome on TV, and after going to Coors Field for the last 20+ years, That type of park fits baseball like a glove. I don't believe there is a good view of Mt. Hood from that site so it doesn't make sense that it faces in that direction. The design isn't bad, it's just not baseball . Now if they could, atleast, face the stadium outfield towards downtown, it would be an improvement. What I would like to know is, is that cable tensioned screen a rain cover?

Looks like the retractable roof is of the same form of the one that has plagued the Montreal Olympic stadium.

I don't think that is possible, there are rules with direct sunlight and such that I am not fully able to say how it works, but I know the diamond can only be positioned in certain ways, which makes any views of downtown not going to happen from inside the park.

That thing will be dated the moment its done. It has no connection to the PNW or Portland.

It also won't look anything like that when it gets built. That is nothing more than a conceptual drawing, we have a long way to go with design before we get to designs for a stadium that would be built. As for connection to Portland and the PNW, I am betting on the use of wood to build a stadium might be what we end up seeing here.

I loved the dream of having MLB in Portland back when Mayor Katz was pushing for it, but I think this time around is the real deal. It obviously isn't going to happen tomorrow, but in about four years or so we are going to be able to go to MLB games in Portland and root for a home team.

Wonder if this site [Zidell Yards] is under consideration by the PDP as there is talk of a 4th unannounced site on the water. This would be a great location for a ball park.

I’m definitely on board with that!

Side note, is this project really “canceled” in its current form or is it just on hold until the infrastructure costs are (hopefully) figured out?
