No idea, their instagram hasn't mentioned anything about it since then. Supposed to be June/July though.

My favourite ramen place, Menya at Broadway and Yukon, has permanently closed.

For value and authenticity, you couldn't do better than Menya. Everywhere else seems 50% more expensive and 50% as good.

Hamburger Mary's has been sold and soon to reopen as Mary's On Davie. Despite it being fully renovated over the span of a year not long ago, the front of the house space has been largely gutted and rebuilt. No idea yet as to who is the new owner, but I expect it's a known restaurateur or group. They have hired a GM, and are interviewing for all positions now. www.marysondavie.com

I'm guessing it's connected to the Fountainhead Pub.

Cambie and Broadway was suddenly papered up too. No sign pointing to the nearest alternative, even though it's only 2 blocks West on Broadway.

I guess this is for the corner being redeveloped, but I'm surprised Starbucks appears to be the first place to have closed.

Hermès Prepares to Commence Construction of Vancouver Flagship:

French luxury brand Hermès is expanding its Canadian operations. Last November, it opened a spectacular two-level flagship at 100 Bloor Street West in Toronto, with more than 6,000-square-feet of retail space in a leased space spanning nearly 13,000-square-feet.

Vancouver certainly will not be left out, as Hermès prepares to start construction on a two-level flagship that will anchor the southwest corner of West Georgia Street and Burrard Street in the city's 'Luxury Zone'. Hermès will replace several retail spaces, including a Bell Mobility retailer, Montblanc, the Chevalier men's store and the Suki's hair salon upstairs which ended up securing a new space in the same building.

Hermès' Canadian President, Jennifer Carter, was said to have been recently staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Vancouver (which will be closing in January of 2020) to finalize some details on the new space, which is expected to feature a magnificent facade and interior. And next to the new store on West Georgia Street, as well, will be a 'real estate trade' of sorts -- Starbucks and Birks-owned jewellery retailer Brinkhaus are said to be trading places with new stores, giving Brinkhaus the closer space to the massive new Hermès, which will feature about 100-feet of street frontage along West Georgia Street, as well as an additional 35-feet along Burrard Street just north of Tiffany & Co.'s recently expanded flagship.

The Robson Japadog sidewalk extension is completed.
Looks good (better than the rendering at the Daily Hive)
- they planted Japanese maples on each corner and boxwoods along it.

It probably won’t reopen until a year from now, in the smaller space beside it.

There will be a Starbucks with a rooftop patio opening in the new Indigo on Robson. I’m wondering if that’s why the Robson Aldo is closed for renovations so soon after their last one, to reinforce the roof and that’s where the patio will be (?).

True. And the one I referred to is also close by. Just weird they did not post anything about the impending closure, or even a sign once it was gone.

It was a very busy spot pretty much all day.

La Taqueria next door was closed today, and they were moving the equipment out. They are reopening soon on Yukon Street, where The Edge cafe used to be. I guess the redevelopment of that corner is moving ahead faster now.

Starbucks wasn't the first place to close. The hair school in the neighbouring building moved earlier this year, and Original Joe's closed at the end of March. Though I'm curious where city staff have moved their post-work hang out location to now.

I guess we better brace ourselves for the 7-storey Canada/Millennium Line mega TOD, as permitted for that corner under current city policy. It should serve the needs of Vancouver and the Broadway Corridor employment/transit hub well for many decades to come.

I'm hoping that with the upcoming Broadway Corridor Plan, we will see actual office towers. The site falls within what the city calls "Uptown Office District". It would be cool to see 30 story office towers here. It is suppose to be an office district after all.

Quote:
Broadway planning work will undertake urban design analysis and economic testing to explore whether select buildings along Broadway could enter into view 3.1 without eroding the overall view of the city within nature,” states the report.

“As part of this work staff will explore the potential of amending the General Policy for Higher Buildings to include sites along Broadway that provide additional housing and/or job capacity, strengthen the overall view, while contributing a heightened level of public amenity, green building advancements and architectural excellence.

”Additionally, City staff will review Cambie Street C-3A Guidelines and Central Broadway C-3A Urban Design Guidelines, which restrict heights along Broadway between Laurel Street and Yukon Street to preserve views to Vancouver City Hall from arbitrary public points on the north side of the False Creek seawall.

First Canadian location of huge Korean BBQ restaurant chain opening soon in Richmond

By Lindsay William-Ross - June 29, 2018

Global brands love landing in Metro Vancouver, often times making their first foray into the Canadian market here in the lower mainland. Such is the case with Seorae, a popular Korean BBQ restaurant chain that has over 230 locations in South Korea and that is opening this summer in Richmond.

...

Seorae is located at 115-5668 Hollybridge Way in Richmond.

Juke Chicken opening 2nd location on Davie Street

Nice to see some variety coming to Davie.

"The Davie St. strip in the West End feels right for a stable, well-received, homegrown winner like Juke. The location was previously home to the woefully short-lived Souvlaki & Co., which replaced the equally false-started Meat City sandwich shop, which replaced the entirely appropriately named Hell pizzeria, which replaced the…you get the idea."
