Yes. From what I have heard over the past few days, it's a pretty well organized attack too.

It won't take much for them to kill this. All they need is plant a few stories to cast a little doubt in the public and it's over. in many cases, people believe exactly what they read/hear. So, even if it is not exactly true (let alone completely false), most will not do their own research to find the truth.

Unless pro-MLS factions immediately rebut these stories and potential false claims, this thing is headed down a dark road - and quickly.

It's going to be hard for a council person to be on-board with this project if their constituents are questioning it (again, even where there shouldn't be any questions).

Not sure I agree that this piece needs rebutting. Anybody who knows anything can see through it. I think the forces of good and light appear panicked running around trying to address every single story. The 75% public support in the recent poll provides strong background.

What was the recent poll??

I think you overestimate what people can see through lol... you know that based on current context in our country.

fwiw i don't think a pay-walled opinion piece in ABJ will move the needle with the general public at all. while ABJ is fairly well known to a small subset of Austinites, it doesn't have much exposure among the general public.

as for readers of ABJ, they've already seen multiple letters of support from various other organizations (Chambers of Commerce, etc.)

Susan Spataro sure seems to be very interested in this deal for an old lady who lives in Circle C...

I'm surprised at the lack of further exploration into the opposition from our local journalists. Probably not hard to connect the dots if they exist as described on other forums.

She really is right in the thick of things. So far she's:
1. spoken at city council
2. showed up to neighborhood meetings
3. conducted a private survey on the subject that's being quoted by Leslie Pool
4. paid for and wrote a hit piece in ABJ (op-eds are pay to play)

As noted she lives in Circle C, nowhere near the neighborhood meetings. There's also no evidence of her doing anything affordable housing related before. Rather, the connection points squarely to being an employee of Epstein.

Guys, I just want to shed some light on the fact that the World Cup is happening at the PERFECT TIME in this stadium debate. The entire country (Austin included) is about to get crazy about soccer. So this could end up giving huge momentum to McKalla, if they're able to channel that energy. Let's hope that they are.

With a current value of around $9 million, why would anyone want to pay over $22 million? Something doesn't smell right. It just feels like a ploy to remove Precourt from the equation by stalling long enough to cause Precourt to pull out due to time constraints he put on the CoA to make a commitment. Then there's no pressure on the developer making such a grossly over the value offer to follow through without major negotiations to lower the bid, then take years to follow through with any development. That is if they don't just clean up the property, and put it up for sale. Then what happens if there is a downturn in the economy and construction loans take even longer. This parcel could remain undeveloped for years. Then on the other hand, there is a sure bet on the table by Precourt who I would say is willing to sweeten the deal to make this happen, if the Council is willing to see the benefits and compromise. He has put considerable energy into this, and I would say even if he has to stay in Columbus for the time being, he won't be that welcomed, another incentive to cave in on some infrastructure arrangements with the city. But it all comes back to this...why would anyone with any business savvy pay more than twice the value for a piece of land? Could that be a decoy bid? I doubt its binding.

Looks like PSV is ready to move on from Austin. Can't say I blame them. Austin CC is gonna screw up yet another opportunity. Fans in Columbus must be pulling their hair out with this latest news. If not Austin it's gonna be Sacramento.

Hang in there. It's not over yet. Seriously. I think at some point in the process someone has told Austin, "this is pretty much your best chance to ever have a top-tier professional sports team". Most of the city supports it. Remember that.

I like your optimism, but I don't share it. The best I can come up with is that no MLS means USL at COTA.
