Excuse me, but I don't know you, so you certainly don't know me well enough to be certain of what I do and don't think.

Hard as it is for you to believe, I am perfectly satisfied with the space I have, thank you very much. I could have more space (there are plenty of larger apartments available in Shanghai, including ones well over 1500 square feet), but I don't see the need.

This current discussion is the epitome of

That's great if you don't need or want the space, and I know plenty of people who feel similarly. However there are an equal, or greater, number of people who do want or need a bit more space. Maybe not a 5000sqft mansion, but not one of the prison cell type units that fill the condo towers being built in Calgary these days.

This comes back to the oft complained about but never fixed problem - the missing middle of housing construction in Calgary and other Canadian cities. It's all either tiny shoeboxes in the sky or giant houses on tiny lots in the distant suburbs. Or even worse, tiny shoeboxes in the distant suburbs. The type of discourse in this thread doesn't help, many people don't want one of the extremes, but they have little option unless they have a ton of money.

That's why I live in a townhouse. It is the happy medium between a tiny shoebox in the sky and a McMansion.

So what I’m getting out of your post is , “ hey I don’t mind my prison cell, partly because I have no choice in the matter anyway… Oh wait actually it’s 100 % because I don’t have any choice, so I might as well learn to like it”

The old ‘hey I like my small space, and I’m good with it’ line is the biggest bunch of bull crap out there. There’s not one person on this forum who would agree with you.

Me too, but the choice is limited. Most of the townhouses in nice areas are astronomically expensive.

It seems to be mainly an economics issue - it simply isn't worth it for developers to build affordable, moderately sized houses in nice areas. I won't pretend I know the answer to the problem though.

You don't need the space either. You want the space to compensate for your bad life decisions. 'hey I like my big space, and I'm good with it' line is the biggest bunch of bull crap out there.

Seriously?? This is an unbelievably lame rebuttal, do you think anybody is going to buy that?

There are very few people in this world (other than mental people or morons) who would take a smaller living space over a larger one given the choice, they only don't because the larger one is prohibitive in some way.

So many arguing and bickering, it’s like high school, but my opinion people at my junior high school however in my Crescent heights school I think students are more mature to the people here on thread.

Yep, for me I live in a narrow house, but would consider a rowhouse or townhouse. I specifically dislike opening my front door to be faced with a hallway of more doors rather than the world.

It’s been a while since I have visited Calgary., but I noticed there is still a lot of stuff going on in this city despite what you hear about the bad economy et al. The crane still reigns supreme in Cowtown.

One question I have about this forum. I have been reading through the last several weeks worth of this thread and there isn’t much in the way of construction updates or discussion? Despite all the action in Calgary. What happened to guys like Josh White, Surrealplaces, Boris, or Furry Canuck, Wild Wild West and Chadillac?

Either they all died in the great “Where Did You Choose To Live and Why” battle or Bigtime put them all out of their misery before taking his own life last year. They have all been reincarnated at skyrisecities.

They all went to Skyrisecities. I don’t know about wild Wild West, honestly don’t remember him.
There’s a dozen or so who still hang out here, but yeah, it’s tumbleweed town. I think most people are only here for the theatrics. Lol.

I was so close to deleting my SSP bookmark. Littlechilds first post reminded me of why I was here in the first place (awesome photo update... thanks LC). Then a side question, asked honestly, set off the same old shitshow that made everyone else leave. Unfuckingbelievable.

Re: Battistella's Nude. I'd love to hear if anybody has an idea about location. They seem to be quite clear on the West bit of west beltline. I'd love to see something close to 14th (like the old super drug mart at 12th Ave) or the proposal in Sunalta at the Fair's fair site (NW corner of 14 and 17). 14th is due a couple of new builds to kick off something to make it more of a complete street.

Nude is going on 14th Avenue between 14th St & 12th St. On the gravel lot on the south side.

Thanks Littlechilds for the great photo updates. I'm looking forward to seeing Calgary's progress when I'm back in town for a visit next month.

TELUS (Just a cool angle)

I love this pic. We seldom see shots from that location. Telus Sky would be epic if it were to be 1,000 ft. plus.
