Could just use it as a domestic base (isn't that what it is now) so you don't really have a need for CBSA. Air Transat and West jet both launch domestic routes out of there, pull some domestic Westjet from T3 and there you go.

But with that, it is time for someone to launch more routes out of Waterloo to take some pressure off. Even if it is 2 daily to Ottawa and Montreal, and a daily to Vancouver.

I think you are confusing the concourse A satellite with the infield terminal.

The T3-A satellite was constructed at same time as T3 and served many purposes with Canadian, Air Canada Tango, and now WestJet.

The infield hold terminal is a 10 gate concourse temporarily used to by Air Canada and the T1 airlines while concourse E/F was built and old terminal 1 demolished. The infield terminal is located by the cargo complex. The infield terminal was mothballed after T1 was completed. Most recently used as the arrival processing center for Syrian refugees.

That's right. It's fantastic. Mind you it could be people from North America travelling to china. Of course either way it enables Vancouver to grow

Yes there are. That's because a city of 100,000 45min away was recently added to the CMA.

I recall reading the globe and mail or the financial post or some ROC rag a few weeks ago and they said we're at 3.8 million...so who knows maybe we're wrong and they're right? I'm not sure which publication it was to be fair but it was the same one which refered to montreal as some "Quebec city [...]".

and a small city of 20,000 as well. +165,000 in 2016. by the end of 2018 Montréal should be very close to 4.3M. and there are a couple cities that are not included, like Valleyfield and Lachute.

the REM will be very beneficial to YUL in the long run, the whole region will now be linked. transit to YUL will be easy, which will bring more people to YUL compared to what we see now. at least for domestic flights

In the last census (2016) we were at 4M.

The last official estimate out for MTL is 4 260 345 within the actual limits of the CMA (July 1st, 2017 - Institut de la statistique du Québec). Keeping the same limits, it represents growth of +212k in 5 years (2012). It's becoming harder to keep up with these constant limit changes and additions.

If anything, we get screwed by it. If Trudeau wasn't less than 2 hours away for most Ottawans we would probably have 2-3 more international flights than we do currently (adding Paris, Amsterdam, maybe even Beijing).

I think the best hope for expansion of flights to Paris is going to be WestJet trying to build our a skyteam relationship similar to Air Canada with Star Alliance. That is going to take years.

rumour has it BA is pulling out of YYC. Last flight Oct 27 ... perhaps seasonal but BA doesn't do seasonal. So it might be cancelled all together.
