So that whole exercise was just for fun?

I just checked out the winners. Seriously, swimming in the Red?? The guy from Romania should've visited first and how could the jury possibly select them?

Yah it was spearheaded by two architects from number ten, it was just an ideas competition, doubt any of that will come to fruition.

The little triangle is the swimming area... if you look at the comments under the article, someone posted a floating swimming pool concept done elsewhere that might have likely been what the designer was getting at.

Still, that's a minor concern for what is still a great design. Even if that part were cut out of the concept it would still be a solid proposal.

Ya it was simply an excercise to gather ideas and hear what the public wants.

I’m pretty sure the city is wholly against any residential or commercial here – it’s to be a public amenity or attraction.

When it gets going the project will likely be taken on by and maintained by The Forks. The city wants TFNP to transition into general waterfront redevelopment as they move away from North Portage. (Go from Forks North Portage DC to Forks and Waterfront DC)

First sign of this happening was that The Forks managed the design and construction of new bike trail from Waterfont Drive & MacDonald to Point Douglas.

Let's hope so. The area is very walkable, but there is no reason to go to the docks. Waterfront remains a good opportunity not fully utilized.

Construction thread is pretty busy so figured this is close enough...

Looks like activity has picked up at the future hotel at 138 Portage E. Saw people going in and out of the front door today and garbage being dumped out the chute from an upper floor.

^ That's encouraging, I was wondering when we'd start to hear something about that project.

Waterfront North additions.

Waterfront North is pleased to announce Nonsuch Brewing will be locating at 125 Pacific at Lily!

Patent 5 Distillery is now under construction on Alexander.

Two great additions to Waterfront North.

^Interesting to see Nonsuch Brewing taking over the old Peg Beer space. Will they operate a restaurant as well?

Their press release says they will be looking into food options, whatever that means.

I suspect having a full kitchen/restaurant type operation significantly complicates things for a small craft brewery. Places like Barnhammer that stick to the basic tasting room concept seem like they are having more success. But then again, what do I know. Peg seemed to be doing well, until it wasn't. I hope Nonsuch can make a go of this space.

PEG didn't do well because of a poorly constructed and executed business plan. They were already behind the 8 ball when they opened, as evidenced by not brewing beer for the first 6 months or so.

Lots of new beverage options in the area, always good to have

Are there any renderings/drawings/plans etc of 138 Portage E?Or is it too early for that?

It seems like a funny building to fit a hotel into.
