Google "Jericho Lands" and "Block F." One's just west of Alma, the other's east of Acadia. Both are owned by First Nations groups and will hopefully get stations.

No earlier than next year. It's not officially funded yet.

If you mean phase one to Arbutus, look above, if you mean the second phase to UBC, if all the details get hammered out smoothly best case scenario is for construction to start just as phase one opens.

I mean phase 1. I have yet to see that it has been announced that construction will begin.

just thinking that West of the Abutus terminal, the inbound and outbound tracks should run further West beyond Arbutus to provide lay-up space for some trains so they don't need to dead-head so many trains from the OMC or Falcon yard to start EB service

these tunnels will eventually become the running tunnels for the Phase II extension to UBC, so the tracks could be extended past that terminus to provide train storage for that extension

Sounds good to me. TransLink should think about a permanent depot too (Jericho Lands?), once the line's built out all the way.

Translink is currently looking for a new OMC for the new train sets they have on order for the Millenium & Expo Lines. I have made a few comments how they should build it at the same time as one of these extensions. My preference though has been that Surreys LRT is built as Skytrain and Translink can build the new OMC in Surrey and get Bombardier to build all the new trains in Surrey and the production plant would be turned into the OMC like they did at the Edmonds OMC. You would think all the politicians would be all over this since they could get so many photo Ops and great PR. Also, Surrey gets the train extension and all the rolling stock is the same so the benefits are for everyone. I hope my comments and maybe others writing to people higher up will make this happen.

Take the "Nə́c̓aʔmat ct Strathcona Branch" (Nathtsahmast, I believe). From a non-Indigenous prespective, it's superfluous, unpronounceable and tokenist. From an Indigenous perspective, it's a First Nations-only prefix attached to a "normal-sounding" name, like the linguistic equivalent of Whites Only/Coloureds Only bathrooms... and also tokenist. J.OT13 noted a few pages back that it works if you rename the neighbourhood - or create a new one - for brand recognition, but then you run into the problem of having most of the city already named (Olympic Village, Kerrisdale, Strathcona, etc).

I like the use of native names of places, like renaming the Queen Charlotte Islands, but there is no use in naming Skytrain Stations in native names just for pandering to natives, because the station's names should reflect the neighbourhoods/streets/landmarks. The name "Nanaimo" from Nanaimo Station is from a native language, but that's because the street it's on is called Nanaimo, and it makes sense.

This reminds me of people in Cornwall, Brittany and neighbouring areas having dual names for places, one in Cornish and one in English. It's just so stupid given that no one speaks Cornish. It's literally Live Action Roleplaying. There are only 7 native speakers of Squamish, even native people don't know how to pronounce "X̱áywá7esks".

Now let's look at actual appropriate names for these stations.

*Mount Pleasant - Main
*Broadway - City Hall
*Oak Street
*South Granville
*Arbutus
*Kitsilano (native name!)
*Dunbar
*Sasamat (another native name!)
*UBC

We got two native names right there and all we had to do was name the stations after the neighbourhoods/streets.

If we're going to rename things, let's start by making things less confusing: rename North Vancouver and West Vancouver. I cannot think of two better candidates for aboriginal names.

I would agree if the city of Vancouver didn’t literally make it the first thing mentioned on their report. (Again, coming off as trying too hard).

I guess until we get any real news or updates on this project these types of conversations will continue.
