I have to agree with this. every week for the last 3 weeks some new news [
cutting and pasting ] state that DC has an Inside advantage because Bezos has a mansion there. Its the same storyline with a link to something posted more than a month ago but it is treated like brand new news. This whole process is crazy and there are going to be a lot of upset and insulted people not only on SSP but Metro areas in general once this whole fiasco does down, if it ever does.
That's not to say in general DC area would not be a good choice for Amazon HQ2. DC is a fine Metro IMO. I have DC area in the top 3 choices, but their housing prices are not cheap and would only go up so if they go that route they are not sticking to the point of housing that is affordable to the general Amazon workers that they intend to hire. 50,000 was stated. Add another 1/4 million adjuncted jobs.
I read a business news article on real-estate within the last month or so that said who ever took this would expect to see the said metro region gain a MILLON people total in less than ten years.
If you want the link PM me.
Anything he wants anywhere in the world ten times over. If he wants Biltmore than its his.
Everyone has their price to be bought out at.
That said if it does not go to DC don't expect him to sell his Manson there at all.
Anywhere he goes he could buy a palatial estate with what ever his hobby is and the most expensive penthouse in any downtown including NYC many times over.
He could also pick up 10-30M places in Toronto[ Ten in Canada ] and London [ Upper 30's or no limit at all really ] at the same time and it would not even tick into his massive fortune. Buying real-estate for a guy like him all he is really paying for is staff, upkeep and taxes which again is nothing.
Real estate is real dollars and not necessary wasteful if he plans to sell someday, and he will for we are all on a lifespan that cannot last forever.
Any real estate he buys should at least come close to the DOW and have a return that is not a money sucker. He could even make money on real-estate.
Many local SSP slum lords around here do.
If he really sticks to the original specks than only 3-4 places in the USA would make true sense.
But that said
It could just be the whim of him and his mood of the day and totally override any decision the site selection committee decides upon.
This whole thing is his ego trip...
I don't think he really care about money anymore at this point.
