To me it looks like there's a bit more cohesiveness between the two portions. It still looks like two separate buildings stacked, but less so. That's a good thing. As TXLove mentioned, black would have been nice...something different, but I'll take it this way too. Do we have a choice?...

Yeah, I like that vertical line on the north elevation. Honestly, I'm even fine with the metal panels they're using on the parking podium. I think the colors complement each other nicely.

Yeah, I'd have to say I'd rather have the recessed balconies. The wind at times can be obnoxious, and when it's cold you'd be regretting being exposed to it. Plus, they help to shade the units a bit.

Yeah, the elevations we've seen that were attached to the site plan showed 65 residential floors. It also showed the "roof" of the office portion at the 34th floor. That first rendering that The ATX posted is showing the roof of the office portion as the 29th floor.

I feel like we're all kind of afraid to be critical of some of these designs for fear of looking ungrateful or spoiled, which sucks. I know if I was in the design room and not a skyscraper forum I would have a whole list of things I would say should be changed. But alas here we are.

The roof could be more interesting - some sort of crown. I liked the earlier versions where it seemed more pronounced. I don't mind that it doesn't have some grand crown like Frost, but the top is really very flat the point of being uninteresting.

I'm wondering if they're planning to light the "crown" of the office portion - note the glass strip running across above the last office floor, and have that match the top of the building.

I just like the height. We really need something to keep pushing the height of our plataue closer to the skies and this really fits the bill.

The design is ok, I think it's nice.

I've heard rumblings that Gensler, and Blume specifically, are open to giving you a rooftop "tour". Definitely take an olive branch, and perhaps even a parachute.

Yeah, these latest renderings look really nice. The building appears to be a different color from different renderings, maybe it's the effect of the glass.

I really like the detail in that last rendering. The contrasts there are really bold and attractive. It appears there are black lines outlining the podium, the edge of the overhang at the street level, and leading up the office portion. That looks really good to me.

I think the verdict is in. Build it as is. Now, let's get some word on financing. If 300 Colorado and Block 71 can get huge pre-leases, why not this one? But I wonder if the huge residential component is complicating financing?

EDIT: The last rendering is better for counting floors. It looks like it dropped from 65 to 62-stories. It's still over 800', but I'm curious as to what the actual height is now.

Its funny you mentioned that. I actually got a private message from one of those guys yesterday. But I don't recall ever really knocking this design. I like it. Sure there's a few things I'd change, but that's just my personal tastes. I'm just still waiting for a sleek ground to roof point tower clad in glass from top to bottom in the 900+ft range with and awesome crown and spire.
I'll skip the olive branch, thank you, but I will take the parachute into consideration, and the invite to the rooftop tour if offered.

By the way, it was mentioned to me that its rare to find anything like this in this country, especially Austin. After considering that, I am quite on board with it as is.
Pretty interesting that we are being followed by the masters of design themselves. In case anyone is curious, it was a polite and enlightening exchange.

F that. I'm not afraid. This building is a borderline POS. It looks like someone stuck the W on top of Colorado Tower, both of which are boring and/or ugly in my opinion. The only thing that makes any part of it remotely interesting in any way is the angled design requirement resulting from the CVC. But the architect was forced to do that... possibly kicking and screaming.
