The final and main debate is on Sunday. If Horwath performs well like she did in the previous debates then even more voters will flock to the NDP. Ford in my opinion is a terrible debater who just used a lot of the same lines over and over again. And with no platform released, more voters will question his validity. My guess is that Ford will try to introduce some wedge issues to grab attention. It's all he can do at this point as I'm sure he doesn't want the focus to be on him not having a clear plan.

I'm hoping there are some usually more accurate telephone polls done soon. Nanos will probably have one within the next week.

If it's worth anything, I did an in-depth 15 minute telephone poll about the election, the parties, their leaders, and how I possibly intended to vote.

I wonder how Bay St. would react to an NDP government. I don't think they'll react as hysterically as they did under Bob Rae. It's pretty hard for them to do that when they see the Liberals under Kathleen Wynne are seen as pretty much a quasi-NDP government while the PCs are led by a populist buffoon like Ford.

What are Ford's business skills, aside from being an inheritor of wealth and a mid-level hash dealer? He disdains higher education, despite being totally able to avail himself of the opportunity. Somehow this makes him a hero to some feeble-minded folk. Of course he appeals to the nearly mindless god squad, who have no morals whatsoever, and use church attendance to reduce their cognitive dissonance of the fact of knowing, deep down inside, that they are really not good people.

He owns a business. He doesn't run it, he just owns it. He's a Trump style business man, the back-scratching backroom-deal-making old-boy. The kind of businessman who would shun one business in favour of another not because of the quality of the product or its price, but because the owner of that other business invites him to swingers parties and he likes to get his dick wet. (Disclaimer: I don't know if he does that personally, but I know of people who do and they're just like him in many ways.)

In other words, he's a piece of shit.

I am going to be voting in the advanced polls, probably today, as I will not be home on election day.

Liberals have a platform.
NDP have a platform.

PCs? Only the rhetoric coming from their leader's mouth.

It is hard to write a fiscal responsibility platform when all the promises you make destroy your ability to run a fiscally sound government.

Pity the poor guy who has to make the numbers work on that document. It'll make Enron look soundly run. I'll bet they find $10-15 billion in 'efficiencies'.

Well, I cast my vote today (since I'm going to be out of the country on the 7th).

We're 8 business days away from the election and the PCs still haven't released a costed platform.

They're going to release it after the debate, probably a day or two before the election, as it's going to contain the bad news that there will big deficits throughout their term in office and they're hoping to have it fly as much under the radar as possible.

IMO, this should be illegal. All registered parties should be legally required to release a costed platform, signed off by the Financial Accountability Office or some other non-partisan public accounting body, at least two weeks prior to election day.

They should have to release their platform at a minimum, one full week before advance polls open. People have cast ballots already, and the front runner doesn't even have an actual platform yet. What if it contains something with which they fundamentally disagree?

Shouldn't it be at the voters' discretion as to whether or not to take that risk? Of supporting what's been put out, while knowing something terrible could also come out after?

Well then what's to stop the party from not releasing its platform until after the election?

I don't think it's even a requirement that they have a platform at all so it's pointless to discuss a deadline for it when it isn't even mandatory.

Seems like it'd be their funeral to me, but if people want to take that risk and vote for something just based off the name, seems fair by me.

It's like when Trump didn't release his tax returns. Everyone was up in arms about it, and then he won. At the end of the day, voters get to decide how much bullshit they'll put up with, and if the past year has shown anything, it's quite a bit.

Their funeral? They're still poised to have a majority government even though they're slightly trailing in the polls.

Part of the problem, I think, is that there is no competition on the right. The left has three competing parties, they HAVE to have platforms that clearly distinguish themselves. All Ford has to do is jump up and down saying "I'm not weft wing!!" and 4 million Ontarians will paste "I'm with him" stickers all over themselves.

Judging by the vitriol hurled at Wynne, it's not the quantity of bullshit that bothers them, but the source.

That is a major difference from 1990 when the right was weak...and split.

I was predicting an NDP government and though I still think they have a good chance, i'm not so sure anymore.

With friends like these, the NDP doesn't need enemies.

I'm too young to really understand it but how exactly did Confederation of Regions get so popular in 1990?
