The fencing had been up for over a year. Drive by it everyday and never see anyone there. Hope it goes ahead though. Great stretch of bridgeland with not much new going on.

The nature of hospitals has changed drastically. South Health Campus is very very small compared to foothills when comparing beds, but the proportion of the hospital that is for out patients is much larger. I don't know details of the new cancer centre, but I suspect similar. 1,650 parking is 33% larger than the Bow's parkade (as a touchstone), and remember that this is in addition to massive parking including two parkade structures flanking the new cancer centre. Do you really need more than 10 parking stalls per bed, in addition to people traveling via transit?

I asked Goodlife Northland Village when the new Goodlife at COP would be opening. They said all new builds are on hold pending a lawsuit in Ontario. Also, they said the City of Calgary turned down the Northland Village request last week to fully demolish the mall and start from scratch. Has anyone heard of that last decision?

No. Something like that would have made the news so if they did ask it must have been done on an informal basis.

So the original plan was for Northland Village to be redeveloped with Whole Foods as an anchor, but I hadn’t heard that a total demo and rebuild was even being considered! What is the latest plan?

Goodlife isn't happy with the state of the gym at Northland and the employee said that now they have been told the mall can't be demo'd they may take over some other spots in the mall. That mall is a total failure now and if the City actually won't let them demo it that sounds pretty crappy.

Whole Foods pulled out shortly after the redevelopment plans went to the city. I remember years ago--much before 2016--seeing plans off of the food court area that indicated the mall would essentially be transformed into streetscapes with a combo of stores, condos and offices. This was to be in done in phases over a period of time. I believe the reason they wanted to keep the existing mall operational for awhile was to have a source of income.

I believe these were the original plans. They still might be the existing plans but I can't tell from the website.

Yes I do remember seeing those plans myself. So my question is the same as yours: are those plans still in effect minus whole foods?
