Let's not talk about gridlock. Weekends are becoming almost as bad as any weekday rush hour around here.

Really, all 20 cities have terrible traffic in their own way, so sick of ATL being singled out as the worst, because it is not.

Agree. I travel the country extensively for work. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Any number of large metros with traffic worse than Atlanta...just off the top of my head; LA, Chicago, DC, Boston, NYC. A notable exception in my mind are Dallas and Houston which seem easier to get around than Atlanta.

Dallas and Houston are hardly slouches when it comes to terrible traffic, but the big difference is that they both have a decent street grid and arterial road network. That's where Atlanta really sucks.

BTW, the Seattle City Council did move forward the head tax in a 5-4 vote, but the Mayor is indicating she'll veto it...

I have noticed this is the most updated Amazon thread.... Do you have insider information? By the way, Chicago and NYC have a lot more commuter trains than any other city in the USA. If you are dumb enough to commute downtown in a car you deserve to sit in traffic.

WOW! Was all that nastiness called for? It is possible for one city have more commuter trains, mass transit, bikers, walkers, etc than another city and still have worst car traffic. Furthermore, I noticed no comment to reference post to commuter trains.

Nothing nasty about it. If you live in a city with good train service you should not drive and if you do you deserve to sit in traffic. My point is the train saves you from long lines of traffic. My guess for Amazon HQ2 is still the D.C. area.

Sorry, ATL subthread is a little testy lately.

I’m ready for amazon to decide so we can start seeing what’s going to be built to support HQ2, no matter where it’s selected. I’m curious if there’s any improved transit infrastructure tied with any of the city pitches.

I wasn't singling out Atlanta for traffic. Congestion was mentioned as a negative for DC and I was only pointing out that this is also a negative here. But saying that traffic is a problem in other cities doesn't help us particularly when we have BOTH additional issues of limited transit options and a relatively small, disconnected arterial road network.

They already pay taxes. In fact, Seattle has doubled the amount of taxes they've taken in over the last 10+ years. At some point, it's a spending issue and a company just recently turning a profit justifiably isn't going to be thrilled to be singled out by the city it practically built. Amazon to Atlanta probably seems a whole lot more attractive today.
